Ohio State University (OSU) Buckeyes Football Players Taken in the 2010 NFL Draft

A lot of fans of the Ohio State University (OSU) Buckeyes are curious about how many of their college football players were taken in the 2010 NFL Draft that was held in late April of 2010. There were a total of four Ohio State football players picked in the 2010 NFL Draft with all four of the draft picks being defensive players. Separate from the draft in the days following the primetime television event held on ESPN there were seven additional players from the Ohio State University squad who were signed as free agents.

Of the four players that were drafted one was taken in the fourth round and the other three were all taken in the seventh round. The first two players that were taken ended up on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The third and fourth players selected from OSU were chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins respectively.

The four draft picks are:

• Thaddeus Gibson was taken in the fourth round with the 116 overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gibson plays the outside linebacker position.


• Doug Worthington was selected with the 242 overall pick in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Worthington is a defensive end.


• Kurt Coleman had the privilege of being taken by the Philadelphia Eagles to play safety with the 244th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft.


• Austin Spitler was taken out of OSU by the Miami Dolphins to play linebacker. Austin was selected in round seven with the 252 overall pick.

The following seven Buckeyes players (in alphabetical order) were not selected in the 2010 NFL Draft but signed with National Football League teams before May 1, 2010:

• Jake Ballard is a tight end that joined the New York Giants.


• Jim Cordle is an offensive lineman that also signed with the New York Giants.


• Aaron Pettrey signed on to be a kicker with the Carolina Panthers.


• Rob Rose agreed to a deal with the Seattle Seahawks to play on the defensive line.


• Anderson Russell is a defensive back that will play in the secondary for the Washington Redskins.


• Ray Small agreed to terms with the Minnesota Viking to join their receiving core.


• Lawrence Wilson inked a deal with the Chicago Bears for his services as a defensive lineman.

In total barring injuries or unexpected events there is a very good chance that 11 new OSU Buckeye players could be joining many of their fellow alumni in the NFL for the 2010 football season.
