The World of Helmet Decals

Of course, if you have played football, you know the importance of a helmet. The helmet even had the name of your team embossed on the exterior more than likely with the help of decals. Today, you can purchase all kinds of sport helmet decals including your favorite football team. As you look at the various decals for football you will find ovals, circles, shields, name strips, custom designs, dimensional, interlocking letters, script decals, oversized, multi-color tape, die cut letters, die cut numbers, custom award markers, and flag decals. This is only one category.

Helmet decals do not have to have anything to do with a sport at all. As a matter of fact, if you look for the most popular decals for helmets besides sports you will see a world of different decals. Fun decals with sayings such as "Loud Pipes Save Lives", "Ain't Life a Bitch", and "American By Birth Biker By Choice", are among the most popular. However, these are just decals with sayings, there are helmet decals offering lethal threat skulls, lethal threat pinup girls, Purple Tribal butterfly, and so much more.

Of course, you must first decide the reason you want decals on your helmet. Do you need decals because you are a member of a soccer or football team? Do you want to express your personality or do you want just want a cool looking helmet? Along with this, you may want to purchase decals for your child's helmet and you certainly do not want adult themed content. The good news is that you can find helmet decals that will glow in the dark, offer bright colors, and more for the kids.

When it comes to kids, you can have custom decals created for their bicycle helmet. This way they will enjoy choosing the items that will be on their helmets and you can help decide if their choices are appropriate. Little girls may want unicorns, kitty cats, or even wording such as princess or their name. Boys of course may want dragons, bugs, or their name. Remember, you can always add glow tape to ensure their safety while riding their bike.

No matter if, you are a man, woman, girl, or boy, there are so many different helmet decals on the market, plus the ability to have custom decals created that there is no reason you should be wearing a helmet without some type of decoration.

If you liked this article, you should read some of the other articles I have written. For instance, read about helmet decals. And while I have your attention, why not read an article I wrote about kribensis?

Taking Care of Your Creative Brain

"The brain is an organ of learning, loving and behaving", he said. "It's involved in everything you do."

I just had the great pleasure of meeting Dr. Daniel Amen of the Amen Clinic. That man is a walking encyclopedia of cutting edge knowledge on optimizing our life by caring for our brain. So, who's gonna care for your brain besides Dr Amen? You'd better step up to the plate on your own behalf. As the old commercial goes, you'll be glad you did! For how your brain works iNFLuences everything about who you are and what you do.

While there is sophistication galore in his methods, actual steps you can take to make sure your brain is ticking along in top form are simple. For starters, here are a few things you can do:

Protect your brain from physical trauma- by wearing helmets as appropriate, minimizing jarring contact sports, and keeping away from severe jolts to the head and neck. Brain scans of NFL athletes are showing nasty damage that will dramatically affect their future health, not to mention current pain and problems.

Protect your brain from emotional stress, as emotional trauma changes brain function. All your systems go on hyperalert, which in turn impinges on ability to sleep, degree of anxiety, inability to handle modern stress, and physical symptoms like headaches and muscle tension.

Protect your brain from toxic exposure, be it pesticides, solvents, prescription or illicit drugs, alcohol or even high doses of caffeine. Overexposure to these substances can kill or maim brain cells...

And, protect your brain from sleep deprivation. It will affect your ability to learn and remember, so last minute cramming is hindered by dumbing down your tired brain. Studies also show that lack of sleep can cause some weight gain due to horomonal activity. Prolonged sleep deprivation can lead to psychosis- why do you think it's used as a torture technique? It can break the best of us.

Now, here are a few proactive ways to help your brain help you:

Take a multiple vitamin everyday, to compensate for our poor modern diet.

Take Omega 3 fatty acid supplements for multiple health benefits.

Pay attention to what you are eating. Start by writing down what you take in every day for about 2 weeks, then you can make adjustments based on recommended standards of what's good for your brain. As Dr. Amen says, "calorie restriction is a brain longevity activity."

Exercise regularly. Ideal is at least 30 minuttes daily where you get your heart rate above normal.

Learn something new every day and write about it in your journal. Not only will you be keeping up to date on areas of interest to you, but in adult learning, reflection combined with knowledge and experience is the route to wisdom.

Meditate or sit still for about 12-15 minutes daily. Mind Chi exercises are perfect to ease your way into relaxation and mental clarity.

Caring for your brain so it looks out for you is basically good practice for you all around. Why not start today and boost your mental horsepower immediately? Giddyup!

Green Bay Packer's Memorabilia - Sports Art

Green Bay Packer memorabilia is a must have for any sports enthusiast! The Green Bay Packers have one of the most storied histories in all of NFL. A mere mention of the Packers brings up images of die hard fans and sport legends playing infamous games that fans still love to reminisce about today. I think it would be rare occasion indeed to go somewhere in WI and not see the famous "G" logo on clothing, dangling from purses or key chains, even license plates bear the green and gold!

Packers Art is Everywhere!

Sports bars and eateries are common place in every corner of America now and it is not unusual to see Green Bay Packers art on the walls of these establishments even outside of WI. I remember on a trip to CA our family was in the LA airport lounge getting a soda and seeing a Ray Nitschke fine art print by sports artist Andy Goralski on the wall! Visit sports bars and restaurants from FL to CA and you will find Packers fans in every state. The far reaching effects of this beloved team on the general public is a testament to the rich history and respect fans have for their beloved Green Bay Packers.

Investing in Sports Art

Sports art has become big business for many collectors. The secondary market can produce a nice return on sports art. Be it from the athletes signature alone or a combination of the artist and athlete signature, profits from reselling at the right time can be quite lucrative. Naturally a print that has sold out commands the higher prices. I know one man that bought a few extra prints, hung on to them for awhile and resold them on the secondary market and used that money to take his family on a nice vacation!

WI Sports Artists

Andy Goralski is probably one the most well known Packers sports artists. His works are seen across the state and across the nation! He has painted some of the Green Bay Packers greats including Vince Lombardi, Brett Farve, Reggie White, Ray Nitschke, LeRoy Butler, Bart Starr, Robert Brooks and now his new piece titled 'From Leather to Legendary'. You may have seen Andy Goralski as a featured artist on Channel 10/36 auction over the years. If you attend any fund raisers you will likely have seen his works at those auctions as well. Sports artist Andy Goralski has recently released his new painting of the original Acme Packers complete with their leatherhead helmets and the legendary newly renovated Lambeau Field directly behind Curly Lambeau's Acme Packer's. Check out his new print today

S. Nica is an avid football fan particularly the Green Bay Packers! A collector of fine art sports prints. See 'From Leather to Legendary' by sports artist Andy Goralski. About Football Boots

Football boots can be termed as the items which should be worn when one is playing the game of association football. The boots that are specially designed for the grass laden pitches are endowed with studs at the bottom position so as to facilitate grip. The main three types of foot ball shoes maker and sellers are the Nike and Puma.

Some of the lesser known producers that engage in the manufacture of football boots include Lotto. The boots of the 2000+ have undergone a major transformation due to the major technological advancements. Technological advancements in the late 2000 period such as the wet control technology has resulted in the production of a sticky boot.

Some of the recent well known football shoes include the nit and Predator, Air Zoom total 90s. The different styles that are associated with the boots depend upon the kind of surface, position of the wearer, the role of the player in the concerned game and a lot of other associated factors. A plastic stud shoe or a sneaker shoe is considered as the most appropriate one for the hard fields.

The boots that are seen these days have undergone a huge visual transformation. Boots that are made with the black leather of the old type has paved the way for the bright and the vibrant colored shoes. Gold and silver colored boots are the common type of shoes that are worn by most of the leading footballers of modern times.

Apart from such boot, football shoes with pink leathers have also become prevalent in the market these days. Apart from the visual enhancements that are accompanied with the modern day shoes the design of the boots have been made to enhance the performance of the players. The football shoes are gaining in popularity on a daily basis.

Informative NFL Trivia

NFL History

The National Football League or more popularly known as the NFL is the biggest professional American Football league. It originally was formed in 1920 as was called the American Professional Football Association which was later changed to the American Professional Football League a year after. Its name was changed yet again to its current name a year after that. The league started with a mere 11 members but has evolved to 32 teams divided into 2 conferences with 16 teams each. This in turn has resulted in a flood of NFL merchandise available such as mini NFL helmets. The long history of the league has thus resulted in some amusing and interesting NFL trivia.

NFL popularity
American Football has been the most popular sport in the US since 1965. The NFL has the largest per-game attendance of any domestic professional sports league in the world, pulling over 67,000 spectators per game for every one of its two most recently completed seasons, 2006 and 2007. However, the National Football League's overall attendance is only about 20% of that of Major League Baseball, due to MLB's 162 game schedule.

In a sports poll completed in 2008, the NFL was the favorite sport of almost as many people (30 percent) as the combined total of the next four professional sports - baseball (15 percent), auto racing (10 percent), hockey (5 %) and men's pro basketball (4 percent). In addition, Football's American TV viewership numbers now surpass those of other sports. In addition, independent studies suggest that the average global viewership is just over 100 million, with the vast majority of whom are U.S. viewers.

The NFL logo
The old NFL logo with 25 stars was used between 1970 and 2008. It was replaced with a new logo, which contains 4 stars, for the 2008 season.

The Super Bowl Trophy
The trophy a team is given for winning the Super Bowl is called Vince Lombardi Trophy; Lombardi successfully the Packers to multiple NFL Championships in the 1960s.

NFL Players
Intriguingly, former Charger Defensive Lineman Ernie Ladd also managed a career in professional wrestling.

NFL Teams
The Green Bay Packers are not only the sole NFL team that is publicly owned by the community and fans. It is the only professional sports team in the United States with such a distinctive ownership arrangement. The Packers had the honor of winning the first two Super Bowls ever played, although at the time they were not yet referred to as Super Bowls. The

Berg Payne is an avid sports fan on the verge of being a fanatic. When he is not at the game, he can be found meticulously going through his vast collection of NFL merchandise which makes up for just a fraction of his popular sports memorabilia collection.

For the Love of NFL Football Helmets

What can be cooler than wearing NFL football helmets? NFL football helmets just seem to have that extra oomph. The bright colors and elaborate, sometimes whimsical designs are guaranteed to win looks of admiration. They make great ice breakers and can come in handy when you are trying to score the phone number of a pretty lady.

Football fans want to wear the helmet of the teams they root for - right? For the most part yes; they will wear the helmet of the team or teams they root for. But there are a good number of fans who wear the NFL football helmets of teams they do not necessarily root for. Heck, there are a good number of non-football fans who will wear NFL football helmets for the sake of fashion.

It may all sound superficial but let us be honest with ourselves. Do you remember rooting for a team not because they were good but because they had the coolest looking uniforms? Ladies, do you remember screaming your lungs out to cheer the star quarterback not because he has skills but because he looks hot? The same thing goes for football helmets; if the design looks good, no matter how much the team sucks, people still gravitate towards the team's helmets. Of course, it would not hurt if the team ruled over Super Bowl. Still, a good design is a good design and it will appeal to people from all walks of life - NFL fan or not.

Fans can choose between authentic and replica helmets. Authentic helmets are, as the name suggests, the same helmets worn by professional players. The face masks are made of steel and the thickness of the padding conforms to league standards. In contrast, the face masks of replica helmets are made of plastic and the padding is made of Styrofoam.

There are a several major manufactures of NFL football helmets. The leading manufacturers of professional football helmets include Bike and Schutt.

Football is probably the only game that looks more painful than professional wrestling. Ironically professional football players were not required to wear protective helmets until the 1930s. Compared to the helmets of today, the early prototypes did not provide much protection.

The early football helmets were made of leather. Eventually the leather helmets were replaced with harness style helmets. Head related injuries prompted sports scientists and helmet manufacturers to improve the helmets further and the result is the NFL football helmets players proudly wear today.

The designs of the helmets do more than make a fashion statement; any design or logo change mirrors the growth and evolution of the teams. In the spirit of change, the NFL made it mandatory for all teams to have alternate or throwback uniforms. These uniforms should bear designs different from their primary team logo and designs.

Your Ultimate Guide on Cheap NFL Jerseys

Your best bet when it comes to looking for cheap NFL jerseys is to buy them online. If you want to obtain them at local shops, you have to spend a lot of time going to and from stores. If you lead a busy lifestyle, you might not have as much liberty of time to be able to do this. Going into just one store will not guarantee that you can already get what you need inside of it. However, things can change when it comes to online shopping in the hopes of getting some cheap NFL jerseys.

But you should know that the online world of shopping can become crazy. Because you cannot see first hand the product you'll buy, there are so many scams online which will make promises and then end you up with nothing. So before anything else, you need to follow some guidelines when it comes to buying cheap NFL jerseys online. Once you do so, you are guaranteed to come across so many websites offering you all the good stuff which can be just too tempting to resist.

    1. See the website's credibility. - The best way for you to know how credible a website is in terms of selling cheap things or cheap NFL jerseys for that matter is by browsing through forums. While you can find site reviews on websites themselves, there's half a chance that the web masters themselves have cooked up all of those positive feedbacks. But when you browse through a forum, that's where the real deal is usually seen. You can choose topics about online shopping and see mixed feedbacks. Complaints, appraisals, suggestions, everything can be found there.

    2. Buy trusted brands. - One of the features of online shopping is that they will offer you with discounted prices of brand products. It will do you some good to get a hold of those discounts because those brands also make cheap NFL jerseys for special offers. At least with branded stuff, you can never go wrong in terms of quality.

    3. Size does matter. - When you've find the right jersey for you, do not be too complacent about sizes. Care to remember that different regions of the world have different sizes. UK sizes differ from US ones so be sure to check out the orientation of the website. Most online shops would tell you or forewarn you about sizes but just so you know, don't just be too careless about choosing between small, medium, and large.

    4. Price is not limited to the product. - This simply means that cheap NFL jerseys will not only cost you some money in actually availing it. You will also be charged with other fees such as shipping and postal service. Make sure you read the selling terms carefully so you can rule out fees which seem quite questionable.

    5. Payment security - This is another very important thing you should check. Most online shops get payments done through credit card charges. Don't trust a site which does not have a secure way of payment. Usually, third parties are involved when a website has a secure payment transfer and you can easily verify the authenticity of such third parties. Do not trust sites which will ask your credit card details through emails, more so if their email account is on a free site like Yahoo!.

Youth Football Sportsmanship - The Ultimate Story the Gainseville State School

Overt Sportsmanship in Youth Football, We Don't See Enough of It

When coaching youth football, you have a bully pulpit available from which to infuse your players with various character traits. One phenomenal Texas High School Football coach decided to do something from his bully pulpit in a game that would forever impact both teams.

    A Very Compelling Story

In November 2008, Faith Christian High School located in Grapevine, Texas was to play the Gaineville State School. Faith Christian is a well-supported and very talented private school located in very well-off north Dallas. The Gainseville State school is located in Gainesville, is a maximum-security correctional facility for juvenile "throw aways" located 75 miles north of Dallas.

Faith Chrisitan vs Gainesville Prison School

The Gainesville team had just 14 players. All of them had been convicted of serious crimes ranging from assault, robbery or drugs etc. But each player had earned the right to participate by following a rigid set of guidelines. This teams record was a dismal 0-8 and this was to be the final game of their hapless season. They had scored just 2 touchdowns leading up to the match-up with Faith. The Gainesville team was also playing without three of the teams best players, as these three had been released from custody the previous week. As you can imagine, this is the ultimate "turnstyle team" players are added to and subtracted from the team weekly based on sentencing and release dynamics as well as meeting the strict eligibility guidelines within the Gainesville system.

Note that most of us youth football coaches whine when we are missing a single player for a game or a player or two starts out a few days or even a week late from the opening day of football practice. Imagine losing a third of your team during each season and having a third or more kids absent at the first day of football practice.

Gainesville travels to its games in a bus with bars over its windows and with 12 armed guards, They play all their games away, no home games and they rarely draw more than a 5-6 fans and usually suit up just 14 players. Faith on the other hand has a very supportive and enthusiastic fan base of 200 plus at each game. They were 7-2 going into this game and typically suit 70 kids or more for most games. Faith of course has the latest and greatest equipment and amenities, in stark contrast to their Gainesville opponents. It would be safe to say these two teams are worlds apart in almost every measurable aspect one could think of.

    A Bigger Mission

But Faith head coach Kris Hogan felt he wanted to give some of what his kids had in their home life to the Gainesville players. He felt moved to do something special for the kids on the Gainesville team for this one game. He knew kids like the young men on the

Gainesville team. Coach knew the kind of family life they usually came from. He understood the lack of support many of them have had growing up. He wondered aloud how many of these kids had been given up on and how he could do something real to provide them each with some hope. Coach wanted his team and his parents to be that light, to let these "throw aways" know that not everyone had given up on them, that there were people out there that cared about them. Coach Hogan wanted the Gainesville kids to know there were people that were inspired by something greater than themselves that allowed them to love and support the "unloveable".

    Parents and Players Join In

Coach Hogan called a meeting of his supportive parents and shared his vision of what he was trying to accomplish, Together they came up with an idea to split the Faith fans into 2 groups. One group would root for Faith, the other for Gainesville. The cheering would not only be for the Gainesville team, but individually by player name as well. When was the last time you think someone had yelled " Way to go Tommy, good play" to one of those Gainseville kids? The parents built a banner for the Tornadoes to run through and at games end put together a body-by-body "Victory Tunnel" for the players and coaches to run through. The Faith team also sent each player home with a sack dinner of a warm hamburger, fries and candy along with a Bible and inspirational personal notes from parents and players.

While Faith won the game 33-14, at the end of the game there were as many smiles on the faces of the Gainseville team as were on the faces of the victorious members of the Faith team. The Tornado players were astounded at the reception they received, as they are nearly always taunted by opposing players and fans with the most cruel and demeaning actions and words.

What Did This Teach the Faith Kids?

How about the Faith kids, what did they get out of this? How many of these kids now know about how fortunate they are to have supportive and loving parents, something most of them probably take for granted? How many of them now know what true compassion is?

What Then for Us Coaching Youth Football?

Football is a game that can teach many life lessons, it's up to you as coach to determine which lessons are important enough to be taught. The game is meant to be played to win, but you can do your very best, play to win, be a good sport and compassionate as well, they are not mutually exclusive goals. When was the last time you did something for your kids or opponents that left a permanent positive lasting memory into their memory bank, one that taught them how to be a better person? By nature I'm competitive. my youth football teams have won over 90% of our games over the last 11 seasons. But we feel very confident we can have a competitive program that also develops character and is a good experience for both our kids and the kids we play against.

It's very humbling to read stories like this. We think we are doing great things by providing cold soft drinks to the other team after each game, being great sports, letting off the gas when ahead big or even on occasion letting the other team score on purpose when ahead by 4-5 scores. But by thinking outside the confines of the box, what other things can we do as youth football coaches to impact kids for eternity? How can we be more like coach Hogan?

Sports and Men's Gifts - Are They One in the Same?

So, you're looking for a men's gift for someone you know - someone you know well or not so well. Although associating men with sports may be a stereotype, the assumption holds some truth. How many men do you know have a favorite sports team in basketball, baseball, or the NFL? How many of these men have some sort of sports memorabilia around their homes? One option when you're looking for men's gifts is to go directly for the sports items. What are some ideas for sports-related men's gifts? As with all sports teams, basic items include cards, flags, and, for players, equipment or bags. In some cases, sports gifts are never enough for the sports fan, and men's gifts with sports themes are always the "right" presents to give a man.

For fans of prominent teams, and in the United States this would include baseball, football, hockey, and basketball teams, everyday items can be customized with a sports team logo. For example, some of the basic items with a sports logo include clothing like shirts and jackets - all of which would be appropriate for a sports game - and items to decorate your home, from sports flags and posters. Work items can even be customized with sports logos, and one popular item for industrial workers is hard hats with a sport logo printed on the side, as well as team colors across the hat. For sports flags, these can range from standard triangular flags to hang up on a wall or larger garden-style flags to hang from a pole outside of your home. In addition, other sports items can be autographed cards or baseballs and, as a men's gift, a display case to keep these autographed items can be given to a sports fan.

But sports don't consist only of baseball, football, and basketball, and men's gifts with a sports theme cover other sports, such as NASCAR, golf, fishing, and soccer. These gifts for men for these sports covers the same items as sports logos on clothing and sports flags, as well as memorabilia and display cases. What might be memorabilia in this case? A golf fan may want to display a signed golf ball, while a racing fan may have a team flag with the number of his favorite driver displayed.

What about for the player? A player for any sport often has equipment to carry around and having a sturdy carrying bag is ideal for going to games or practices. Sports bags often look like oversized duffle bags and, for many sports, these can hold all of the equipment - sticks, shoes, helmets, or uniforms - a player will be using. Surprise an athlete you know with a new sports bag to hold all of his equipment.

In the case you're looking for men's gifts for sports fans - be it relatives or friends - many options are available. While the more avid sports fans may go for any items printed with their favorite team logo, others may be more discriminatory or passive sports fans. Regardless, sports gifts for men fall into both categories and, when needing a sports-related gift, many options for a myriad of sports can be found in stores and online.

    Grooms' Favorite Wedding Ideas

Everyone knows that weddings are really the bride's purview. Yet these days, grooms are more involved than ever in the wedding planning process, and many of them are bringing their own ideas into play. Here are some of the favorite ideas that grooms have contributed to their weddings.

Part of the reason that wedding planning has not held more appeal for the average guy is that weddings tend to be formal and fancy. The fact is that most men are happier in environments that are relaxed and fun rather than stuffy or precious. When you start talking about canapés and candlelight, you lose them.

Men who take an active role in planning their weddings will usually try to lighten them up and to inject some of their own personality into the finished party. This is a great trend, because it means that the groom will feel like it is his wedding too, not just a day for the bride. In addition, the other men at the wedding might find the whole thing to be a little more to their liking. Less sentimental and more fun, in other words.

If you ask any groom what part of the wedding concerns him the most, he is likely to say the food. One trend that grooms can really get behind is serving comfort food, especially for the cocktail hour. Pigs in blankets on silver platters, sleeves of crispy fresh "pommes frites" (french fries), milkshake shots and mac and cheese cups are all high on the list of things that grooms really love to see on their menu. Serve these foods, and you can bet that your guests will love them as well.

Grooms also like foods that will make their wedding feel more festive. One great way to add a lighthearted spirit to a reception is to hire a cotton candy machine. This is a unique touch that is sure to be a hit, especially with the kids at the reception. Give a nod to the bride, and order the confection to be made in the wedding colors that she has chosen. You can also have cotton candy cones wrapped and sealed with a custom sticker to give out as wedding favors at the end of the night. It is a fresh twist on the candy bar favor idea that is so popular.

Another idea that grooms really go for is the groom's cake. These cakes are custom made by specialty bakers in a design that represents an interest of the groom's. It could be a cake shaped like his dog, or sculpted to look like his favorite car, or even the helmet of his favorite NFL team. The point is that the groom's cake is one part of the wedding that is all about him, even in the most formal and traditional white wedding. Best of all, the groom's cake is traditionally chocolate.

Something else that grooms love is to have some sort of activity at the wedding reception, beyond dancing and eating. Casino nights have become a popular form of entertainment at some weddings. It can be done in a very hip sort of way (although not every bride is going to go for this idea, no matter how well it is executed). This can tie in well with groomsmen gifts that have a poker theme. The nice thing about those types of groomsmen gifts is that they are a signal to the groom's buddies that he still intends to hang with them on poker night after he is married.

The more the groom becomes involved with planning his wedding, the better. It will give him a chance to be a part of the festivities, and it also gives the bride a fresh take on what a wedding should be like. When the bride and groom plan their wedding together, the day will feel even more special to both of them.

    Football Fantasy Scouting

When scouting for football players, it may be difficult to discern which players to get. Oftentimes, football commentators exaggerate how good or bad certain players are. All too often, NFL quarterbacks are described by TV commentators as having "rocket arms" when their arms are actually mediocre. Some commentators exaggerate the speed of certain football players by describing them as being "blazing fast" when they are probably not any faster than Varsity football players on your son's high school football team.

One of the ways to get a more objective idea of who is really fast, explosive, strong, etc. is to look at their combine numbers. There are several metrics including the 40 yard dash, the vertical leap, the broad jump, bench press, etc. that can give you some indication of the relative athletic abilities of those players. And the key to those combine numbers is to give all the players a uniform condition or venue so that the numbers are more meaningful. For instance, the 40 time can vary greatly if they are timed indoors or outdoors. They can also vary greatly if they are hand timed or electronically timed. For this reason, NFL draft prospects are usually tested in the same venue at the same time.

Now, it is true that the numbers can be deceptive. Some players may run fast without pads and a helmet, yet appear pedestrianly slow on grass in game time conditions. And some players may run faster between 30-60 yards which is sometimes referred to as "deep speed". However, these numbers can at least give a discerning football fan some objective numbers to take into account when he or she is choosing the players in their fantasy sports league.

    NFL Marketing Misfire?

As the latter end of the year approaches, the NFL season starts, and it's a good time to look at the niche marketing potential of football, and an opportunity missed by the NFL...?

I remember when I first started in affiliate marketing, one of the first big successes I had came with NFL gear. I found that people searched in big numbers for specific team merchandise, and it was possible to market to just those people, and provide them what they wanted.

For example, I found a site selling replica helmets that had an affiliate programme.
I joined it and set up links to specific products, maybe a Dallas Cowboy helmet.
Then I used pay per click advertising, so the ad was only shown to people who typed 'Dallas Cowboy helmet' into Google.

This is classic niche marketing, I didn't even have my own website, and the model can be followed today, just as it can in many other niches.

What I find a bit surprising though, is that in all the years I've been following football from over here in Britain, I don't see that many changes in the jersey or helmet designs.

If you look at soccer in Britain, the teams have 3 different new shirts every season, which is nothing other than getting the fans to buy over.
Of course they do, so as not to look out of date, the sales justify doing it and so it happens the next year and the next.

The basic traditions of the shirt stay the same, but there are noticeable differences.

Why don't the NFL do this?
With a soccer shirt costing around $100, it's big money for the clubs.

In the NFL the difference is that the teams are a franchise of the NFL, and it's the NFL that holds the rights.

That still doesn't explain why the NFL doesn't do it.

Then of course you have the helmets as well.
I reckon it's a glaring miss by the NFL, a drop in the end zone.

I'll still be making money from niches like NFL merchandise, but every time I see the jerseys I'd love to see something new.

The History of the Denver Broncos Uniform

The Denver Broncos debuted in 1960 with uniforms which were criticized largely by the public. This could be caused by the fact that they were really ugly uniforms which consisted of brown helmets, brown pants, jerseys with a white and mustard yellow color, and the infamous vertically striped socks. Two years after endless criticism, the club decided to get rid of their uniforms at a public occasion where they burned their uniforms together in a huge bonfire.

Together with this, the team revealed a new logo in the form of a bucking horse. Likewise, they changed their colors to orange, blue, and white. The team's uniform in the early 60's were designed by Laura North-Allen and consisted of white pants, orange or white jerseys, and orange helmets and were way better than their first uniforms.

1968 was the year that the Broncos became popular for their Orange Crush design. The team's logo was redesigned to show a horse coming out of the D. The helmets were also change to blue and other minor modifications were done including thin stripes that were put onto the uniform's sleeves. In the following years, the team wore orange pants with their white jerseys.

Then in 1997, the team change their logo and uniforms to the design that is being used today. The current logo of the Denver Broncos is a profile of a horse's head. Now, they wear navy blue jerseys instead of the usual orange ones. This new uniform also features a streak that runs down the sides of the jersey and the pants. The streak is color orange on the blue jerseys and blue on white ones. Despite the change, these uniforms were still unacceptable to the fans and critics. These uniforms were only accepted by the public when the Broncos won their first ever Super Bowl sporting the said design.

For prime-time home games, the team also introduced blue pants with orange stripes and are worn with blue jerseys. Something odd about their pans is that their home white pants have the orange stripe but the road white ones sport the navy blue stripe.

The blue pants that the team can be seen wearing to day was introduced in the mid-2000. Although it has been included in the initial uniform change of 2007, one player vetoed wearing them and thus delaying the introduction of the uniforms to the public. Further, the team also has an alternate orange jersey with a navy blue stripe in the side. These jerseys were first seen during the game against the Indianapolis Colts in 2002 and was last used against the New Orleans Saints in a 2008 game.

Denver Broncos' head coach is not really a big fan of the orange jerseys which explains why this particular uniform is not used most of the time. Nevertheless, uniforms only make one part of the team. It can make a difference one way or another but what is important is the teamwork that is needed to win a game.

    Football Display Cases

Football aficionados are very passionate about their game. Love for the sport encourages people to join fan clubs, watch every league match and collect memorabilia. Whether it is a commercial body or an individual, these ardent fans never miss a chance in advertising their collections. These objects are of immense value to their owners. This sentiment is respected all over the world, and most of these end up in football display cases.

Football display cases are mostly used to house signed footballs and other collectible items donated or purchased from legendary players. Other collectibles items include jerseys, helmets, shoes and caps. These items need to be handled with care, so that they can last for generations. Apart from making an excellent display, a football display case also offers protection to collectibles.

A number of people opt for football display cases that come with engraved NFL team logos. Collectors can even engrave custom nameplates with their logos of their choice. Many fans purchase display cases that have etched logos on glass or acrylic bodies. Some football cubes are shrink-wrapped, which helps avoid scratching and dust, and provides added protection during transport.

There are horizontal or vertical football display cases available in a wide variety of sizes and styles. Clear, black or solid wood bases support them. Some cases can hold up to 4 footballs. Some varieties can easily be mounted on walls or simply kept on tables.

Football display cases can be purchased from local stores or ordered over the Internet. There are a number of ready-made varieties that are available. However, if an individual needs these cases to hold special items, they can easily be made to order. Cases are offered at various prices, depending upon manufacturers, market trends and manufacturing materials.

Why Teams Have NFL Throwback Jersey

We know from the history of authentic jerseys that uniforms came long way from the 1920's to the present times. With a lot of teams and available uniform designs, most teams now practice having a NFL throwback jersey during games played at Thanksgiving.

What are NFL throwback jerseys? A throwback jersey is a variation of a certain football team's uniform that bears a likeness to some of the uniforms in the past. Although throwback jerseys are now popular in football, it was however started during to 1980's by the game of baseball.

After being introduced by baseball, leagues for hockey and even basketball also started using them. NFL throwback jersey on the other hand, was only launched in football during the 1994 season. This was because the league then was celebrating season number 75.

Since plastic helmets had already replaced leather helmets, players chose instead to simulate them instead of actually using them. Since there is a rule that requires teams to put numbers at the back of jerseys, in order to be more consistent with the idea of NFL throwback jerseys. Teams did their best to match the fonts.

Since the practice of using large numbers at the front of jerseys started on later, some teams had small number printed on the right shoulder of their throwback jerseys. This was to reflect the style that was used earlier.

However, using throwback jerseys was that easy to use. The Dallas Cowboys for example was criticized in the design of their NFL throwback jersey. The Dallas Cowboys donned uniforms using a design from the 1960's but retaining the design for their helmets. The Dallas Cowboys though has now opted to used their original design for the helmet, which was just a plain star. The New York Jets also did the same thing.

Although the National Football League said that teams could wear their throwback jerseys at some point only during the regular season, some teams started wearing them until the end of the football season.

However, because of the popularity of throwback jerseys with fans, the National Football League, in 2002, eventually gave the team permission to use their throwback jerseys as an alternate. Some teams have actually used this rule. The San Diego Charger, to cite an example, uses their throwback jerseys two times per season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers however, has not worn their pre-1997 throwback jersey design after deciding to change the color for their team. Some say that this was done in order to forget their dismal performance during the 1976 to 1996 seasons.

As you can see, wearing throwback jerseys is not just something that teams do to be called fashionable. Teams often do this to remember history or a big event. The Pittsburgh Steelers for example wore a design that reflected the uniform they used during the 60's when they commemorated their 75 seasons in the National Football League. Some teams also wear particular throwback designs when playing against certain teams. When playing against the Miami Dolphins for example, the New York Jets played wearing a replica of their of Titans design.

Whatever reason a team may have, seeing them go to the field wearing their NFL throwback jersey always makes everyone, players and fans alike, nostalgic.

Let the Revolution Commence - Riddell Revolution Football Helmets

Football equals concussion. This is an equation that keeps players, coaches and parents to be always on guard. Whether it is amateurs or professionals, injuries are incurred by players every season. And this is not just the bruising or bleeding that is seen on the surface---serious internal injuries are present as well. An impact may and will prove fatal if delivered with a great deal of force. Having hormonal-charged high school students and egotistical professional football players in the field, this is inevitable. Building upon this fact, the leading manufacturer of football headgear introduced the new Riddell Revolution football helmets.

    The Study

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center conducted a 3-year study among high school players, which demonstrates a considerable drop on the percentage that concussion will likely to occur. To be exact, the authors claim that players sporting the new Riddell Revolution football helmets were 31% less prone to experience concussion as weighed against those wearing the traditional headgear. The study also incorporates the symptoms, severity and the recovery period of a concussion. This part reflects that no matter the helmet type, such variable made no difference with regard the healing period of the players. Though such study shows great development and evaluation on the Riddell Revolution football helmets, Riddell Inc. still posts the warning that no helmet or headgear can stop each and every concussion that comes in the way of a football player. Michael Collins, one of the authors, extended such caution. Collins further stressed that players must be fully recovered before entering the field after a concussion. There is nothing more vulnerable than a football player impaired by a recent injury, to suffer the same fate for the second time.

    The Goal

The whole purpose of it all is to minimize the possibility of a concussion. It took the company more than 4 years before the Riddell Revolution football helmets came to being. This is not a simple project, knowing the intricacies of quality headgear, Riddell spent much time on the field as well as the laboratory to actually see if the new design would be at par with the standard of excellence maintained by the company and the expectations of the public towards such equipment.

    The Sensitive Part

Most of the field related concussions are brought about by contact blows coming from the side of the head; this is one of the findings presented in a study partly sponsored by NFL charities. With such conclusion, Riddell proceeded to formulate, design and manufacture headgear that will provide further protection in the areas specified in the study. This gave birth to the structural change offered in the latest line of Riddell Revolution football helmets. Said alteration represents the first in virtually 25 years.

The Crude Reality - Anatomy of a Drilling Project - Part I

It was a hot, humid day on June 21, 2005. I taxied back to the ramp with a designated examiner furiously jotting notes on a tattered clipboard. If you're a pilot you know all too well that the outcome of the test isn't always disclosed until you have parked the airplane, completed your shutdown checklist and headed back to the office for the debrief. There I sat across the table from the 70 year old plus, diminutive D.E. patiently awaiting my fate. Did I pass the check ride? Did I perform all the maneuvers within acceptable tolerances? For the love of Pete, am I an instrument-rated pilot or not? I did pass, and moreover, I truly felt like a pilot with a command of the aircraft armed with a comprehensive understanding for the flight systems, controls and a renewed sense of confidence.

Ironically, two years earlier to the day, I approached a Cessna 172 for the very first time with my baby-faced flight instructor. We sat in the aircraft for nearly an hour and reviewed the instrumentation and flight controls, and then began to discuss basic aeronautic principals that magically raise that hunk of metal off the ground, and the communication requirements vis-à-vis Air Traffic Control. Admittedly, that first foray into the world of aviation was both overwhelming and frightening. Apparently the expression on my face was not lost on the instructor who was used to seeing the same from every rookie. He cut short his monologue mid-sentence and said, "Don't worry, this will all make sense soon - just stick with it and learn as much as you can on your own time and before you know it, flying will be second-nature to you." The best advice he offered was saved for last. "Most important thing - don't be afraid to ask questions - it's my job to make sure you understand no matter how long that takes."

He was right. I asked, he answered, I learned and what was once an unbelievably complex venture now seemed completely understandable. After more than six years behind the controls piloting several types of aircraft, I have never stopped seeking out more opportunities to learn and working toward mastery. All new experiences in life seem complex at first pass. Just ask a medical school student or NFL rookie (I know a few of each) how they felt on day one. The honest answer is they probably felt like any intelligence they arrived with was surely sucked out of their cranial cavity the night before without notice. Thankfully, that is life and there are no short cuts. Likewise, sophisticated investors are no different. They all start out exactly the same way beginning by first identifying a sector that captures their interest which fuels a sense of passion, and then moves them to make a significant investment of their time and energy in an effort to thoroughly educate themselves.

Oil & Gas can be perplexing, especially if you know little or nothing about it, or have absolutely no prior experience in the energy sector. Fear not, over the course of the next four issues of The Crude Reality, we'll cover the basics and take a step-by-step approach to removing the veil of mystery.

Like the old saying goes, "Why do fisherman fish in the lake?" Simple, "That's where the fish are."

    Leading the Expedition

The Petroleum Geologist is responsible for aggregating the raw data and applied science in order to identify a "prospect" (underground oil and natural gas reservoir), which is the hypothesis that a naturally occurring, commercially exploitable accumulation of oil and gas exists, at a clearly defined underground location." (Money in the Ground, 1985) Oil and gas prospects are 3 dimension entities in nature - there is a thickness that spans a definable area, most likely acres of area and are measured in "acre-feet". But you might be asking yourself, science is all well and good, but upon what is the science based and how can they be so sure that the data will accurately identify where a prospect can be found? The Petroleum Geologist comes equipped with - no surprise - tried and true geological principals.

    Where Do We Look?

Oil fields are rarely found among volcanic formations, but prefer granite, which is one strong indicator that oil may exist. Natural erosion of granite produces clay, and when mixed with organic materials, creates chemical and physical changes which force out water and petroleum. These basins are the best hosts for oil prospects; in fact nearly one quarter of those identified basins have produced nearly all of the world's petroleum today. Some of these basins contain only oil, others just gas. There are some that harbor both. All basins are consistent in their physical characteristics. Each has a layer comprised of plant and animal material that has transformed over millions of years to produce petroleum (source rock). Second, each has a layer of rock with holes through which that petroleum may flow (reservoir rock). There is yet another layer of rock preventing petroleum flow (seal). Lastly, a layer of rock exists that allows oil to flow into a reservoir, but restricts further movement due to an overlying seal (trap).

To this point, it all makes sense, right? But unless you're Superman with X-Ray vision how is it possible to penetrate the surface of the earth and see that these conditions truly exist? Another great question.

Is There Really Oil Under There?

The first tool at the Petroleum Geologist's disposal is aerial photography and infrared satellite photos that identify trends which are then scrutinized and provide clues of geologic formations thousands of feet below. Combine that visual data with measurements of changes in the earth's gravitation and magnetic fields, and you're starting to put the pieces of the puzzle together and identifying even more indicators hidden beneath the surface. Finally, a seismograph transmits sound waves deep into the earth to map the underlying geology. This data is fed into a sophisticated computer which converts the information into an image of the rock below and may also detect the presence of oil and gas with a high degree of success. Petroleum Geologists generally produce two maps from their study - a topographic map showing the high and low areas in rock formations. The other indicates areas with the best porosity. Good prospects can generally be found in high areas compared to the surrounding area (oil and gas move to higher ground since both are lighter than water) and in areas of plentiful porosity (which provides for holding large accumulations of each).

So there you have it... the first step in oil and gas exploration. Now that we understand how a particular site is identified, the oilmen must now navigate through mineral leases, surface approvals and title work - all necessary steps in order to move the good stuff from the ground to the surface where it does the most good.

New Orleans Saints Player Rankings Week 7

Now that the heat of battle has died down and we've all caught our breath after the heart attack inducing tension of the Saints Dolphins clash I want to take a look at what we've learned about the team this week.

New Orleans Saints helmet cam analysis

1 - Sean Peyton is a gutsy leader. This we have known for a long time but it's worth reflecting on one game changer in particular from this past week.

What I love about Coach Peyton is that even when the chips are down, and without the luxury of being in the driving seat with points on the board, he still went with his gut and took his Quarterbacks word as gospel at the close of the 1st half. A lot of coaches would have taken the 3 points and come off the field as quickly as possible to speak with his team en masse. Peyton decided to put all his trust in his main field lieutenant and was rewarded when Drew Brees converted with a Quarterback sneak.

2 - Drew Brees is a practitioner of perfection. Watching Brees beat himself up on the sidelines in the first half was tough to see. Here is a man who studies the game like no other. He puts in the hours at the training facility, in the film room and probably at home too. He works toward and expects perfection from himself and those around him so when the game plan was collapsing you knew damn well he was going to work the situation harder than anyone.

And sure enough when the camera panned to him time and again in that first half he was studying those aerial shots intently looking for the dinks in the Dolphin defense that he could exploit. This is a man that never says die, is born to win and will stay cool when all around him are loosing their heads. The second half revival was testament to the fortitude of his character and leadership qualities.

3 - The Saints Defense is for real. They genuinely make us title contenders. The early points put up by the Dolphins and the speed with which the Saints Offense kept returning possession placed a massive strain on this unit. They were under pressure to keep the game within reach and give the Saint Offense time to regroup and work a fix. This they did and then some.

Key to the unit was the play of both Jonathan Vilma and Darren Sharper. At times in the first half they looked like the only two who had turned up with their game heads on. Vilma in particular pursued the ball with conviction and plugged up the holes on a number of 3rd downs to stop promising Dolphin drives. He led the defense by example and was key to the end result.

Meanwhile, in the Saints secondary, Darren Sharper was patrolling with intent and when his moment came he made a decisive interception which he returned for a touchdown to shift the games momentum early in the second half. The confidence number 42 instills in the secondary unit is clear to see and against the Dolphins they added another 14 points to their season tally.

For these reasons I hereby name Darren Sharper and Jonathan Vilma my Super Saints of the Week.

    SEC Roundup Article

    Alabama
Alabama has a good special teams unit and it didn't disappoint Saturday against Mississippi State. That 32-7 win was the first in three years for the Crimson Tide. Javier Arenas fielded a punt and ran it 80 yard for a TD. He set up another TD with a 46 yard punt return.

    Arkansas
Nathan Dick, Arkansas QB, was the starter for the Razorbacks. This was the first game of his career. He completed 25 of his 43 passes. He had three touchdowns and an interception. That's not bad for a player who is new to the college field. Lucas Miller, the Arkansas WR, caught ten passes for about 200 yards.

    Auburn
Auburn was expected to be a great team this year but they have not lived up to expectations. However, they have forced their opponents to not even score an offensive touchdown during the first quarter this year. They have scored first in most of their games this year. 19 Auburn players have caught passes this year.

    Florida
Florida is used to winning. They have a record of 10-1 for the second time in three years. They have had that record for the sixth time in school history. Florida has scored 42 or more points in six consecutive games, which is currently the nation's longest streak of doing so.

    Georgia
Mark Richt is a good coach, especially under pressure. He has coached the Bulldogs to 16 wins when his team was tied or trailing in the last quarter. They have a good road record too. They have an impressive 30-4 record on the road while Richt is coaching.

    Kentucky
Kentucky is not one of the best teams in the SEC but they do have a good statistic. They lead the SEC when it comes to giving up the fewest number of sacks (11). Also, they are tied with Florida when it comes to the most sacks they have put on the other team (27).

    LSU
LSU had won 31 games in a row in which they scored 21 or more points. Good things must come to an end and that was no exception. I'm sure they would have much rather seen that scoring streak come to an end against almost any other SEC team and not such a big rival as Ole Miss.

    Ole Miss
Jevan Snead, QB at Ole Miss, completed his seventh game with more than one TD pass against LSU. Also, this was his fifth game in which he completed 200 or more passing yards. Snead hasn't been picked off in the last three contests. Mike Wallace, Ole Miss WR, caught five balls for 99 yards. He also caught two passes for touchdowns.

    MSU
Even though State's season is virtually in the basement, they have something to be proud of. They amassed a total of 445 yards against Arkansas, which is the most they have had against any team this season. Anthony Dixon was a big part of the win against Arkansas. The team is 10-3 when Dixon carries the ball more than 20 times. State also rushed the ball for over 226 yards, which is the most of the season too.

    South Carolina
Kenny McKinley, WR of the Gamecocks, caught the ball six times against Florida. With 194 catches, he is now tied for seventh in the SEC. He also has a total of 2,637 receiving yards. That's a school record.

    Tennessee
Eric Berry has been an integral part to the Vols. He picked off his 12th ball. With that pick was his third time he returned one of those interceptions. Berry played quarterback for the Tennessee Vols during their second possession and ran for 11 yards on four rushes.

    Vanderbilt
Ryan Hamilton had sixteen tackles against Tennessee. Chris Marve had a sack and nine tackles. Reshard Langford picked off three balls.

    Mini Football Helmets

NFL football and college football continue to grow and are now dominating the sports scene world wide. Probably the most recognizable piece of a football player's equipment has always been the football helmets that they wear with the team logo proudly displayed. The helmets have been an object of desire for sports fans for years and the business of selling those replica helmets has been booming through many dealers on the internet. Whether you want to support your favorite team or want to collect them all can bring the game into your home.

The Mini Football Helmets are a fantastic item for the fan that either can not afford the full size helmet or doesn't have the room. Many places are even offering NFL mini helmets signed by their favorite player and mounted and displayed in a protective cased if the owner desires. The college football mini helmets are offered for all all college football teams teams and are an amazing replica of the helmets you see on the players on Saturday afternoon.

The mini football helmet can be a fantastic Christmas, Father's Day, or Birthday present for collectors and non-collectors alike. They can be added to the existing collection of memorabilia of your favorite teams. We all have a party for that big game. Why not put a mini football helmet on the snack table to really show your support. At tailgate parties you will be the envy of the other tailgaters when you display the actual helmets of the two teams who will be playing.

Preparing to Be a Youth Football Coach

As a parent if you have made the decision to become a youth football coach then congratulations are in order. This will be a remarkable journey for yourself and the youths alike. There will be many special moments for everyone. However before you step onto the pitch though, you will have to remember that this is a very important role and how you react with the kids and the impact you have on the pitch with them can have a very dramatic effect on them on how they feel about the game and even how they feel about themselves in years to come. Now apart from a clipboard and a whistle you will also need some good information as well to help you along the way.

Being a parent as we all know is difficult enough. So running a football team with your kid and others is probably going to be just as hard. First thing is most parents who get involved in coaching a football team, already have their own son or daughter playing in the team. So it is a good idea to find out from your own child how they would feel about you coaching a football team. Some kids will relish the thought of their parents coaching, but others would probably not find it so cool and may even feel embarrassed about you giving the training. So it is a good idea to ask how your child feels about you taking on such a role.

If you decide this is the role you are going to take on be aware there will be some issues that go along with the way. A lot of these will be minor but some may be a bit challenging. There maybe situations that you may never have dreamed of having, but you will need to take it in your stride and enjoy the challenge. As we all know sometimes the coaching of our own kids at home can be a bit challenging but it is well worth the effort.

Setting a good philosophy is a must when you first start to teach a team. Focusing on the best interests of the the kids and their well being is first. Then promoting the respect of players and coaches on both teams including officials is an important part of philosophy as well. Making sure you hold up the virtues of good sportsmanship and fair play is also one of the top of the lists of items. The other thing to think about is the placement of safety in skill development and fun ahead of any personal desire to win. With all these things in mind and putting this into your game plan, you could well have made the right decision to start coaching. So go for it and enjoy the journey.

Remember to be a football coach will also have to be CRB registered, which means having a Criminal Records bureau check done.

Suffering As A Boston Sports Fan

Being a Boston sports fan is a plight that's similar to being in the Mafia, every time you try get out, it keeps sucking you back in. You're given just enough to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, just enough to ensure your devotion, but then you're often disappointed. One thing is for sure, rooting for a pro Boston sports team is going to cause you to feel the full range of emotions, often all in the same season or even game!

I sometimes wonder why I remain a Boston sports fan. The Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and Red Sox make you want to like them, but it's sometimes painful to remain a devoted fan throughout all their turmoil.

I grew up in a hockey family and my dad was particularly faithful to the Bruins. From a very early age I can remember him watching Bobby Orr and Esposito skate circles around other teams. By the time I was old enough to actually understand what was going on, the Bruins were comprised of some more awesome players like Middleton, O'Reilly, Pederson, and Milbury. I used to love to watch Boston play Montreal with my father, but it seemed like Boston lost a lot more than won.

It was great to see Terry O'Reilly beat the heck out of other players, and it was cool to watch all these veterans a few years later skate around without helmets while the rest of the players had to wear them because of a grandfather clause. These were tough guys. When Cam Neely and Ray Bourque started playing I enjoyed the Bruins just as much. But after Orr and Esposito were gone, none of these more recent players won the Boston Bruins a Stanley Cup, quite frustrating.

But not to fear, the Boston Celtics around this time were hot. Like the Bruins/Canadians, the Celtics/Lakers rivalry was a blast to experience, especially when the Celts won. And win they did. I remember probably one of the greatest NBA teams ever to exist, Bird, McHale, Parish, DJ and Ainge. They weren't the prettiest bunch of guys around, Bird being particularly funky looking, but they were so fun to watch. It was wonderful to see them beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1983-84 championship and the Houston Rockets in 1985-86 championship.

Unfortunately the last few Celtics' seasons lately have been dismal. They don't even make it to the playoffs regularly any more. How many more "building years" do we need? Watching Pierce take off his shirt and wave it around his head while being ejected from one of the playoff games against the Pacers this year was sad. Witnessing the Celtics get a terrible pick in 2007 makes me think the Celtics are not going to be good any time soon.

But 1986 was the end of Boston championship teams for a long while. In fact, it was sixteen years until the Patriots finally won Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002. That's a long wait. That's a lifetime for crying out loud.

The New England Patriots were another difficult team to watch and remain devoted to. Grogan was a decent quarterback and many would argue Drew Bledsoe was even better, but they never brought a championship home. Watching Drew throw numerous interceptions and trudge off the grid iron with hunched shoulders was disturbing. I like to think of Bledsoe as an 'almost' kind of player. He was almost awesome, was almost a championship quarterback. He almost won the game. Bledsoe actually drove me crazy. He was New England's franchise player, but he just didn't seem to ever do quite enough to win. It was so frustrating to watch him play. All big and gawky, shuffling out of the pocket like my nana.

But then the sports gods shined down on Bean Town, the tide turned. Third string quarterback Tom Brady took the place of an injured Bledsoe, and brought the championship home to Bostonians. The 2002 NFL playoffs were absolutely awesome to watch if you were a Boston sports fan.

Watching Adam Vinatieri blast it though the uprights in a blizzard to beat the Oakland Raiders, and again to win the Super Bowl beating the St. Louis Rams was monumental. Thank God for the Pats. They brought respect back to Boston. They showed what true grit is, what the word "team" actually means, in a day when everything in sports seems to be centered on individual feats. I loved it when they ran out on the field together as a team instead of being introduced one at a time at the beginning of the Super Bowl.

When the Pats won their third Super Bowl in four years, they were finally accepted as a dynasty. These wins will carry me for many years. Again, thank God for the Pats.

As the Patriots gear up for the next season I am seeing some fantastic draft picks, which is par for the course in off-season Patriots strategy.

But no good article about being a Boston sports fan can be complete without discussing the Boston Red Sox. What can be said about the Sox? They were the epitome of frustration. They were the Bad News Bears for so long. Of all the Boston teams, they were the most painful to watch. They often had the talent, they often played well, but they didn't win a World Series for 86 years! Between the ball rolling between the knees of Bill Buckner, and Grady keeping Pedro in against the Yankees during the 2003 playoffs, every Sox fan was pushed to the limit of what they could endure. Of course there were many other less notable, but just as frustrating moments in Red Sox history. Any Red Sox fan who remained a fan throughout should be given a gift.

And what a sweet gift it was when the Sox won the 2004 World Series. Being down 3-0 in the ALCS against the Yankees, and then coming back to beat them and sweep the Cardinals in the World Series was one of the greatest professional sports stories in history. In fact, it's been called one of the greatest comebacks ever. All those long years of no championships in Boston finally came to end with the Pats winning in 2002. But after 86 years of no World Series rings, the Red Sox win was the sweetest of all. 2004 was one of the greatest years in Boston sports ever. A World Series and Super Bowl win by Boston teams in the same year, almost unbelievable.

Being a Boston sports fan is like being in a difficult marriage that has lots of ups and downs only, but is worth working at to keep. Being a Boston sports fan is as frustrating as it is rewarding. Patience, loyalty, persistence, and faith will get you through. And in the end, it all works out. Just keep the faith.
