What to Look For in San Francisco 49ers Jerseys

San Francisco 49ers jerseys belong to official team uniform for the team also know as the Niners. The team was established in 1946 and play home games in Candlestick Park at San Francisco. Headquarters for the team is located in Santa Clara, California. The team colors are scarlet and metallic gold with either white or scarlet lettering. Stripes are white and scarlet on gold pants. The socks are scarlet.

The team uniforms have varied significantly over the years, although shades of red are featured in almost every version. The reds range from brilliant scarlet to mid range crimson to a much darker and duller red during part of team history. Particularly during the first nearly twenty years of team history, there were several changes in color, usually involving the color of uniform pants.

The original uniforms consisted of jerseys in cardinal red. There was no trim. There were block white numerals on both the front and back of team jerseys. The pants were white or light gray in both the home and away uniforms. The away jerseys were white with red lettering on the back and the front. Helmets varied in color and were made of leather. They typically were red, silver or gray.

Team uniforms gradually shifted away from the use of silver or gray in the garments in favor of the old-gold color, in honor of miner's gold. Some changes in decorations, such as the number and angle of the shoulder or sleeve stripes was the main change from the late 1960s through the next score of years.

Like many of the other warm climate teams, the 49ers jerseys are affected by the outside temperature when playing home games. This affects the style and weight of uniforms worn on away trips as well. When playing a warm weather team whose home jersey is white, the Niners have used a mesh red jersey in the past as their away uniform. Other uniform choices during the latter part of the 20th century mostly consisted of variations in the thickness, color and placement of stripes on both the pants and the jersey. Helmet designs showed some changes as well.

The current uniform consists of a home jersey in cardinal red with white block numerals and angled sleeve stripes. The away jersey is inverted with red numbers and stripes on a white background. The pants for both uniform uses are old gold metallic with red and white stripes. The socks are always red. The helmets are the metallic gold of the pants with a red medallion logo. The logo has white letters "SF", with edging of narrow black and gold surrounding the red background.

Because of the record number of wins racked up by the 49ers, the jerseys, novelties and collectibles are very popular amongst fans. The Forty-Niners were the first team to gain five Super Bowl wins and are tied with the Dallas Cowboys for the most number of wins at the Super Bowl. The Pittsburgh Steelers have one more Super Bowl win with a total of six.

Find San Francisco 49ers jerseys at the official website for the team, along with the usual toys, novelties, posters and banners. You can find some of these items at boutiques and specialty shops, but shopping at the official site is fun and interesting. The jerseys and other items make great gifts for anyone who loves the team.

Various Types of Display Cases For Your Football Memorabilia

Football memorabilia can be traced back all the way to the late 19th century. This is when the sport made its first appearance at universities and colleges. It wasn't until 1960's that this sport began to rival baseball in the national stature. As a result, many vintage items from the 1950s and 1960s are more limited than those of other sports therefore making football memorabilia during those times a collector's find. Hence, it is football cards, autographed NFL replica helmets, and other football memorabilia that have enjoyed incredible rise in demand not mementos from overstocked baseball memorabilia in the market.

These memorabilia pieces are precious and great investments. Consequently, it is important to protect them. The best protection for collectibles such as these is display cases. These cases do not only protect the item but also provide an attractive way for your memorabilia to be displayed. These are designed to fit particular collectibles such as helmets, football or jerseys. It is essential to purchase one that is specifically designed for the piece you are displaying. There are cases that can be displayed on the wall while others are intended for the desktop. Here are some models of display cases you can choose from before you select the best one for your memorabilia:

o If you are planning to show off your precious signed football then a mirrored back or bottom display case might just be the right display case for you. This case will enhance visibility of the piece so that the entire collectible can be viewed at any angle.

o Glass display cases are the best in quality and offer the best protection for any football collectible. There are a large range of glass cases that comes in different shapes and sizes. Some are made of a tough aluminum frame and shatterproof glass. They also come in hinged or sliding doors that are securely fitted with a lock. The large variety and shape of these display cases enables you to make your entire collection to stand out. These cases can also be tailor-made to meet your personal preferences.

o Acrylic cases are sometimes favored by other collectors because glass cases can easily break especially with pets and young children around the house. These display cases also offer UV protection like glass cases.

If you a serious football collector then display cases is a vital investment for your collection. Some collectibles such as your line of NFL replica helmets or prized autographed football left in open air can be coated with a thick crust over time as well as being vulnerable to heat and other damaging factors. These display cases can ensure that your collection will be there for you to enjoy in the years to come.

History of the Buffalo Bills Jerseys

The Buffalo Bills football team is based out of Buffalo, New York. They are members of the American Football Conference Eastern Division. They are known to be an immensely popular and well followed team. During most seasons all their homes games are sell outs, as are the majority of away matches. If you want to get hold of Buffalo Bills jerseys then this article will help you to learn a little more about the history of the uniform and the changes which have occurred over the years and decades.

The Bills were charter members of the American football league and became part of the NFL in 1960 when the two competitions merged. In 1964 and 65 the bills won consecutive championships and are in fact the only team to have ever won four consecutive AFCCs. Since that time the team has not been as successful, in fact they lost all the four Super Bowl finals that they have been part of.

Though the ultimate trophy still alludes the team, their statistics show how in all other respects that have been very successful. The tally up until today includes two AFL championships, four AFC championships, ten divisional championships and seventeen play off appearances. It is no surprise to discover the vivacious support that follows the team. Fans in New York State are known for their passion and love for football. The Bills are actually the only NFL team to play within the state of New York. The New York Jets and New Your Giants host their matches in New Jersey.

The original colors worn by the team were blue, silver and white. The famous red bison logo was taken on board back in 1962 when the uniform was switched to blue, red, and white. It is these colors that are still used today. It was then in 1974 that further changes were made including a new logo with a blue charging bison that has red steam trailing off its horns.

Eight years ago there was a new design of kit created, though using the original colors. The white jersey now has a red stripe down the sides. The helmet now used has seven stripes - two white, two nickel, two royal blue, and one navy blue in color.

When playing in New York, the Buffalo Bills usually wear the blue kit. Away games typically feature the all white selection. Under coach Dick Jaurin the team have continued this tradition.

Starting in the 08 - 09 season, the bills announced they would play one home game a year in Toronto. They are the only team in the competition to have two home stadiums due to this.

The Buffalo Bills are often referred to as the All American team. The red, white, and blue colors on their jerseys which are representative of the colors on the Stars and Stripes are proudly worn. Though the design has been altered over the years the spirit remains unchanged. Why not show your allegiance today by getting hold of the latest design of jerseys for your friends and family.

Famous Quotes by Vince Lombardi During Football's Annual Bowl Season

College football's annual bowl season is full of surprises and spectacular moments. Famous coaches have had some memorable remarks about American's most popular sport, and here are some of them by legendary Green Bay Packer coach Vince Lombardi, who many consider to be the best of the best.

Lombardi's head coaching record in the National Football League was second to none. In 9 years with the Green Bay Packers, Lombardi's regular season won-loss percentage was 73% (96-34-6), his postseason was 90% (9-1) and his total was 75% (105-35-6).

He took a 1-10-1 team in 1958 to an NFL title in 3 years, and went on to win 5 NFL titles in 9 years (1961, 1962, 1965, 1966 and 1967) and three titles consecutively. He led the Packers to the first two Super Bowl titles in 1966 and 1967.

Lombardi's discipline was legendary. A lifelong Catholic, he spent 4 years in Cathedral Preparatory Seminary to become a Catholic priest before becoming a standout football player at St. Francis Preparatory High School.

An undersized guard at 5 foot 8 and 185 pounds, he was offered and accepted a football scholarship to Fordham University in the Bronx to play for "Sleepy" Jim Crowley, one of the Four Horsemen of Notre Dame in the 1920s. He would become part of the "Seven Blocks of Granite" that held Fordham's opponents scoreless several times during a 25-game winning streak.

After coaching at Fordham, Lombardi became the offensive line coach for West Point under another legendary head coach, Colonel Red Blaik. Lombardi then became the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants, working with defensive coordinator Tom Landry and head coach Jim Lee Howell, before becoming Green Bay's head coach in 1959.

Lombardi was 59 years old when he died of cancer in 1970. Grown men and Hall of Fame football players openly wept at his funeral.

Here are some of Vince Lombardi's best known quotes:

"If it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?"

"I firmly believe than any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-victorious."

"There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game and that is first place. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay and I never want to finish second again."

"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."

"Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence."

"The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender."

"Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser."

"Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit."

"If you can accept losing, you can't win."

"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence."

"Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect."

"Success demands singleness of purpose."

"It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up."

"It's easy to have faith in yourself and have discipline when you're a winner, when you're number one. What you got to have is faith and discipline when you're not a winner."

"The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have."

"We didn't lose the game; we just ran out of time."

"Teamwork is what the Green Bay Packers are all about. They didn't do it for individual glory. They did it because they loved one another."

"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will."

"Coaches who can outline plays on a black board are a dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their player and motivate."

Here are some quotes by Lombardi's players:

"When Lombardi said 'sit down,' we didn't look for a chair." - Forrest Gregg, Hall of Fame tackle.

"He prepared us so well, and he motivated us so well, I felt he was a part of me on the field." Fuzzy Thurston.

"He pushed you to the end of your endurance and then beyond it. And if there was reserve there, well, he found that too." Henry Jordan, Hall of Fame defensive tackle.

"He made us better than we thought we could be." Jerry Kramer.

"Coach Lombardi showed me that by working hard and using my mind, I could overcome my weakness to the point that I could be one of the best." Bart Starr, Hall of Fame quarterback.

"The fear in my mind was not him but that for some reason I would not be a part of the team and be with this man." Forrest Gregg.

"He made you a believer. He told you what the other team was going to do, and he told you what you had to do to beat them, and invariably he was right." Willie Davis, Hall of Fame defensive back.

(Editor's Note: I have read and studied one of the best biographies on Lombardi: When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Maraniss, I highly recommend his book as a great read.)

NFL Draft Combine

Before the NFL draft even takes place the NFL draft combine occurs. During this combine players are examined on both a physical and mental level. This allows NFL teams to make a better informed decision as to which players they should look at more carefully in the months leading up to the draft.

But not every player gets to attend the NFL combine. Only the best players from each team get invited. There is not enough room for every player that is coming out of college, so the NFL goes through a selection process when determining which players will attend.

The players that are lucky enough to get an invite will go through a rigorous couple of days of testing. During physical testing the players are brought out in front of the teams so they can see what they look like physically. From there, players are then weighed and measured. These dimensions are then called out for all of the NFL clubs to here. It is during this stage that the truth comes out on a lot of players. Some players who claimed to be 6' tall end up measuring out at 5'10". This can make or break where they get drafted.

After the height and weight players will go through a variety of different drills. Some of the drills include the 40 yard dash and the vertical leap. Quarterbacks are also given the chance to show off their passing skills.

If the physical part was not demanding enough, players also take written exams which are graded. The effect of these exams has been highly scrutinized over the years. Players will also participate in oral interviews with any teams that are interested.

Overall, the NFL combine is the first step that takes place before the NFL draft. Without the combine, the draft could not be as successful as it is.

An NFL Fan Down Under - My Super Bowl Story

An NFL Fan in Australia? Want to buy your favourite NFL Team Merchandise? Read on...

So as my mates and I gather at a pub in Melbourne, Australia in early February to watch Super Bowl XLIV I see a decent number of NFL supporters whom I have no idea who they are supporting. Why? Because they are not kitted out in supporter merchandise.

Put simply, Melbourne is a true sporting capital, go to a local AFL match and you will see every passionate supporter decked out in their team gear. So to see Melbournians watching and cheering on sport in mufti just didn't seem right.

As great as this Super Bowl experience was, it was this small aspect that annoyed me. Ok call me picky, but most people I talked to that day were passionate about the NFL, the Saints and the Colts that they'd buy gear if it was made available.

Well if I'd have known that I would set up my own little store and made a quick buck.

As I sat there is my Peyton Manning jersey (and yes what later in the day I drowned my sorrows in), I was asked numerous times where I had gotten it from. Notwithstanding my answer being that I in fact bought it whilst on a recent trip to the United States, I quickly informed my newly found NFL-loving buddies that this kinda stuff is pretty easy to find online.

In fact I reckon if I had my laptop and wireless internet card on hand I could've made someone quite a few sales on the spot (bring on Super Bowl XLV).

As the Saints fans rejoiced, I sat hands on head as Manning's pass wet through the hands of Reggie Wayne wondering if but only more Colts supporters in this small pub on the edge of the earth had shown their support, then they may have done better...

So where exactly can one go to buy online? Well at the time I had a pre-order in place for a Colts Super Bowl XLIV Champions T-shirt from Pro Sports Gear. Needless to say that that particular order did not go ahead...

My mates and I are big NFL and NBA fans, and you can read about our adventures in a serious of articles that can be found here

Auburn University (AU) Tigers Football Players Taken in the 2010 NFL Draft - Two Selected

There were two Auburn University (AU) Tigers football players taken in the 2010 NFL Draft that was held in New York City in April. The two men from the Alabama based campus selected by National Football League (NFL) Teams are:

• Ben Tate (running back) who was picked by the Houston Texans in the second round with the 58th overall pick
• Walter McFadden (cornerback), selected with the 138th overall pick in the 5th round by the Oakland Raiders

Ben Tate hopes to follow in the footsteps of other successfully Auburn running backs that have entered the NFL in the last few seasons. Most recently that list includes impact players Ronnie Brown of the Miami Dolphins and Carnell "Cadilac" Williams of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. When football fans go further back in time they notice that the great Bo Jackson was actually a running back product of the Auburn football program.

Ben Tate, born is 1988, is listed as a 5'11" 218 pound back that has a desirable combination of power and speed. Originally from Woodbridge, Virginia Ben grew up in Maryland and attended Stephen Decatur High School where he set a high water mark for the state in terms of rushing yards for a single season with 2,886.

After earning all-state honors his junior season Tate transferred to Snow Hill High School (also in Maryland) for his senior year of high school. As the tailback for the Snow Hill Eagles he led the squad to a second place in the state finish for the football team. Tate chose to follow up his impressive prep football career with the Auburn Tigers after declining athletic scholarship offers from powerhouse football programs the University of Florida and Penn State just to name a couple.

Walter McFadden was selected by the Oakland Raiders to play cornerback and while Walter has no relation to Raiders running back Darren McFadden (a 2008 first round draft pick by Oakland) Walter does have an older brother in the NFL. The older brother of Walter also plays cornerback.

Walter is the younger sibling of Bryant McFadden who played his college football at Florida State University before being selected in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft to play cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bryant was on both Steelers teams that won Super Bowls after the 2005 and 2008 seasons.

The younger McFadden is a 6'0" 177 corner with quick feet and an upside that the Oakland Raiders are excited about. The Raiders expect to find some versatility in Walter as an asset both on defense and on special teams during his rookie season.

Kim, the author of this article, doesn't know if the two Auburn players picked in the 2010 NFL Draft have any interest in the sport of golf or any inclination amongst them to buy a pair of orange Auburn University golf shoes. Kim suspects that a pair of blue AU Tigers golf shoes would help either of them fit in better with their new found teammates who inevitably play a lot of golf as it's a very popular sport amongst NFL players. Readers curious about looking at either orange or blue Auburn Tigers golf shoes should visit one of the two links in the previous paragraph to look at choices.

American Football Pads: Here's What You Need To Know

Anyone that has participated in the sport understands the critical importance of American football pads. Whether it is a tiny little wide receiver who wants to outrun his adversary, or the beefy lineman who would rather obliterate his opposition, the American football pads (sometimes referred to as shoulder pads) are one and only thing standing between these guys and fractured shoulders!

But there are literally hundreds of American football pads on the market. Which item is the correct pad for you?

This write-up was created as a guide to help you render a wiser decision. As a public service, I have accumulated 7 crucial items of information.

American Football Pads: An Overview:

The shoulder pad is in fact a tough plastic external shell that includes a multiple layer, shock-absorbing cushioning beneath. As the name suggests, they guard the shoulders from potential traumatic injury. Additionally they play a role in safeguarding the chest and rib area, and they are anchored with several snaps and buckles. For comfort, a shoulder pads cushioning of foam rubber is often worn underneath the pad.

American Football Pads: Shock Distribution:

As the players clash, a significant amount of force is employed. These pads do a terrific job of disbursing the shock throughout a larger area so there is much less pressure at the point of impact.

American Football Pads: Shock Absorption:

For any force of the impact that cannot be distributed, these pads are developed to soak up the majority of the impact through deformation. The pads on the shoulders are strung on tight webbing and deform on impact.

American Football Pads By Position:

The Quarterback:

These position players want the unattainable combination of agility and protection on their own American football pads. Pads for any quarterback are light-weight and provide freedom of motion.

The Linemen:

Pads for linemen are created to minimize the amount of flaps and epaulets, hence reducing the grabbing and holding opportunities presented to their adversaries.

Linebacker/Fullback:

These positions ought to wear a cut-away shell style that will offer a little flexibility and a little less protection in comparison to a linesman's pads.

Other Skilled Positions:

These individuals rely more on speed than the other players, and so ought to choose a pad that includes a design for lower profile, more mobility and less bulk. Not surprisingly their goal on the gridiron is to generally avoid confrontation by outrunning the other guys.

Conclusion:

There are additional considerations to bear in mind when looking for protective gear for you, your team, or your family member. Depending on the player's body type, or when there are wounded body parts to consider, you might want to consider some of the varied custom fitted choices. Examples consist of spine and rib protectors.

I hope you found this article to be appealing to you. Being familiar with this crucial information will help all players improve their use of American football pads!

Lucas Oil Stadium - New Home of the Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are enjoying their stay at their new home - the Lucas Oil Stadium. The stadium is a retractable roof stadium located in Indianapolis, Indiana which opened in the second half of 2008. The new stadium replaces the RCA Dome which was the long time home of the Colts. This stadium is constructed in preparation for the Super Bowl XLVI to be held in 2012. Aside from the stadium, a new high-rise JW Marriot Indianapolis is being constructed as part of the preparation for the Super Bowl.

The architectural firm behind the design of the new stadium is HKS, Inc. with Walter P. Moore as the structural engineer. Similar to other stadium, the Lucas Oil Stadium has a retractable roof and window wall which allows the Colts to play outdoors. The concept of kinetic architecture was utilized in the design of the stadium for it to be a multi-functional facility with the ease of conversion for an increased return of investment.

The rights to name the stadium was purchased by Lucas Oil for approximately $120 million for 20 years, thus it is fondly nicknamed as The Luke by some commentators. Despite the state-of-the-art facilities of the new home of the Indianapolis Colts, a retro look is inculcated in the design as a result of Indianapolis's liking of a field house appearance of sports venues which were popular a few decades ago. The construction of the stadium costs $720 million which was raised through a cooperative effort from the government of Indiana and the Colts.

The seating capacity of the new stadium for football games is 5,000 more than the old one. Now, 63,000 fans can watch from the sidelines during the game. In the event that Indiana will host the Super Bowl, this seating capacity can be increased to 70,000. For basketball games, the seating capacity of the facility can go beyond 70,000. Features of the new stadium includes two huge Daktronics HD scoreboards each measuring 97 feet wide and 53 feet tall and located in the northwest and southeast corners of the stadium.

The retractable roof of the Lucas Oil Stadium was designed by Uni-Systems. The roof divides lengthwise into two retractable panels, each sliding down the slope of the roof of the stadium when it is open. Each panel weighs 2.7 million pounds each. It takes nine minutes for the roofs to open, twelve minutes for it to close and is fully automated at that. What is unique about these retractable roofs is that it is the first ever roof that divides lengthwise. However, the entire stadium is not waterproof so the roofs remain close for most of the year.

A peculiar addition to the stadium's design is the large moveable window wall that allow additional light while closed and gives a more open environment when open. This is another first for that stadium since it is the largest movable glass wall in the world. The first NBC Sunday Night Football of the 2008 NFL Season was played in the Lucas Oil Stadium. Unfortunately, the home team wasn't able to grab the win.

Theme Music And The Theme Song Of The Show

The instrumental theme music for Sunday Night Football has been composed by Academy Award winner John Williams. The broadcast also has a theme song, which was first sung by Pink, but in the 2007 season, the country singer Faith Hill replaced her. Different lyrics have been used for the song depending upon the occasion. Some of the lyrics include "Waiting All Day For Sunday Night", and "Waiting All Year For Opening Night". This theme song resembles the Joan Jett song "I Hate Myself For Loving You".

Scoreboard, Logos, And Graphics

The scoreboard, logos, and graphics of Sunday Night Football have been designed by Troika Design Group. The NBC's show uses the same bottom line scoreboard that Monday Night Football used in the 2005 NFL season.

Enhancing High School Football Running Back Routines

Weightlifting

Let's not forget weightlifting. It is one of the essential elements that will help you improve your game. The benefits of lifting weights are found in added strength, but more importantly it will increase your maximum power. Maximum power should be the goal of your training, because it involves muscle strength and muscle excursion during play. Strong and powerful execution will enable fast plays, quick action, and recognition on the field. We highly recommend working with a personal trainer when weightlifting to insure that you are doing it properly, and to help you design a program that will fit your position.

Staying Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is all it takes to prevent dehydration, and thus should be an important part of football practices. Each athlete should bring or have a water bottle provided, and they need to use it often. Water should never be used as a motivational or reward type basis. When players are hydrated and energized they will practice harder and learn more.

Powerful Blocking Strategy: Double Teaming

In various plays whether you are on offense or defense you will want to have a strategic advantage over your opponents. A great technique that will give you an advantage on the line is double team blocking. It is basically putting two linemen on one. If you ever need to get a running back through or perform a great blitz, remember this technique. The basics are simple for this technique: First, both players will need to step together, and put their hips together. They form a wall that the opponent cannot break. The double team should focus on the shoulders, and arm pits of the opponent to control dominance. To be effective the double team has to work in a fast blitz like maneuver.

Traditional Driving Block

Simple drives are important for linemen to practice and perfect. Hence the name for the most common drive: the drive block. This drive block means that you are going to push the opponent in the direction that they are aligned. If the Defensive lineman is aligned slightly to the right of the offensive linemen then the drive block with pus the defender to the right. When executing this block start with your play side foot, meaning if the play is on the right side of you it will be your right foot. Connect hard against your opponent, bring your other foot into play and continue to drive in the aligned direction.

People will have to take care and ensure that they purchase something which has some value.

People should also make sure that they get all their autographs verified to make sure that they are not fakes. People can take the football and hockey autographs to the grading firms which will be able to ascertain if the particular autograph are fake or genuine. This will help people know the actual value of the football autographs and hockey autographs or any other sports memorabilia. People should also refer some of the sports memorabilia websites and check to see where the particular autographs are available. People should make sure that they purchase the football autographs from reliable sources and for the right price.

Sports memorabilia like hockey autographs are not only priced possessions of die hard sports enthusiasts but have also become collectors items which can fetch a whole lot of money in the near future. It is therefore imperative that people should select them with at most care and should be aware of what they are getting themselves into.

Philadelphia Eagles Football and Food - What a Great Combination

When we say American food, what quickly would come in to mind would be those thrown in the Grill and then mashed up with tons of onions, melted with cheese, and then placed between two pieces of bread. Upon biting one of those, one's world suddenly stops and just reflects on the flavors that just entered one's mouth. Yes, we are talking about the good ol' American Cheeseburger. And in the words of renowned chef, Bobby Flay, it doesn't get any more American than this. But in the great city of Philadelphia, they have yet made their own trademark. They have combined the juiciness of that beef, with the flavors of that sweet onion, and the stamp of that melted cheese, with their own version and touch of added flavor. Yes, we are talking about the Philly Cheese Steak. Yes, it is like steak on a bun; and this is exactly just how we like it!

But this is not only what this city is known for. Philadelphia is also known to many top sports teams in America. Whether you are a hockey, baseball, basketball, or Football fan, they got it all! The Philadelphia Flyers are one of the Stanley Cup winners in NHL and have made their mark in the league. The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the Major League contenders who have been also one of the most popular teams. The Philadelphia 76ers is without a doubt, one of the most victorious teams in the history of the NBA. They have been up there and have suddenly become the underdogs now soaring back to where they belong. And when you talk about NFL, there is, without a doubt, that you would be able to raise an eyebrow and deny the Philadelphia Eagles. From its history, this team has already won 3 NFL titles and has made two Super Bowl Appearances (1980 and 2004). It is without a doubt that this team which started at the year 1933, as purchased by Bert Bell, has been a notable force in the brutal competition in the NFL. This gives the people of Philadelphia yet, another reason to be proud of their great city.

If you would notice, almost all of the sports teams of Philadelphia would attach some meaning or connection to flying and soaring high. And yes, this was not only beautifully placed and planted to the names and logos of the teams, and it was lived on and delivered by them as well. Philadelphia should be proud for not only are they participating in the various sports leagues, but they are also very prominent in these. The city should be very proud of their teams as they are able to give pride to the great city of Philadelphia. Whether in the NHL, MLB, NBA, or NFL, they do practically excel in these and are respected in every division. That is not something common to all cities. If politics and city spirit would go together, hey, why not push those cheese steaks to the grill during those games?

Why Your Youth Football Defense is Not Working

Be Careful What You Give Credence to in Youth Football

Unfortunately many youth football coaches confuse a defensive "alignment" for a defense. I can't tell you how many times I've heard coaches insist "I tried the 4-4 last year and it didn't work" or "I tried the 6-2 last season but we couldn't stop the sweep". When I hear comments like these, I know the coach talking doesn't understand the basics of defense. A 4-4 or 6-2 simply denotes how many players are aligned on the line of scrimmage and linebacker spots. The numbers mean nothing more, they don't denote a defense at all.

All 4-4 alignments are not alike, are the linebackers stacked? Are the defensive tackles lined head up on the guards? outside shoulder? How about the defensive ends?

A 6-2 Wide Tackle Six alignment is much different than a 6-2 Split Six alignment or the 6i alignment. They all have 6 linemen on the line of scrimmage and 2 linebackers, but the base alignment is much different in each. In fact so is the entire defense.

Then there is the coverage question? Not all 6-2 or 4-4 defenses use the same pass coverage, are you man, zone or a combination? How do the force and alley players play in your defense? Mine play much different than most.

What is the base key and base responsibility for each player in the defense based on those reads? Please don't tell me it is "make the tackle". If that is the only key and base responsibility you teach your players, prepare for getting a bundle of points scored on you each week.

What type of player do you have at each position? The 6-2 defense I use has a much different player description for defensive end and defensive guard positions than any 6-2 I've ever seen.

What is the base technique each of the players in each of the positions in your defense going to employ? What base stunts and blitzes do you run and why? What formations require adjustments to your base defense? Which formations give you such an advantage that they prompt you to go to an automatic stunt?

What tendencies are you tracking on defense? How and when do you use that data to your advantage in youth football?

How and where do you get minimum play players in your defense where they can add value on every snap and execute a technique or approach where they can also have individual success every play? The Miami 4-3 you are copying is used by a college team that could care less if all their kids got into a game. As a youth coach, we care about that.

So the next time someone tells you they are running a 4-4, 5-3 or 6-2 without saying what type of flavor it is, what the coverage is, what the force is, what the alley player is, what the base alignment is for each position, what the base reads are for each position, what the base techniques are for each position, what type of player you are looking for at each position, what the base responsibilities are for each position and what their base stunts and "tells" are, the info you are getting from that person is going to suspect at best.

An alignment is not a defense and it never has been.

Expert NFL Sports Betting Picks and Predictions

The first two weeks are officially in the books and have started to tell us a few things about the teams that we cheer for. With that being said, it's only the third week and we have 14 games left for each team. What will happen towards the end of the season is still a mystery as we've seen some pretty crazy things already. So what should we expect in the third week of the season?

Tennessee vs. New York Jets (New York -2.5). This should be another tough game for the Titans. Even though they're obviously a pretty good team, they have started out 0-2 on the year. The Jets defense appears like they are for real under the tutelage of Rex Ryan. Mark Sanchez has also been great through two games, even managing to beat the Patriots already. Chris Johnson went off last week against Houston and made a lot of fantasy owners happy. Will he be able to keep it up?

Jacksonville vs. Houston (Houston -3.5). If Houston plays like it did against the Titans, the Jags really don't have a chance in this game. However, that's the reason they play the games out. Houston probably won't hit on all cylinders in the passing game like they did last week. The Jaguars had a nice contribution from Mike Sims-Walker last weekend and they hope he continues to grow into his role. It will be interesting to see if Matt Schaub can continue the blistering pace that he started last week.

Cleveland vs. Baltimore (Baltimore -13). According to the oddsmakers, this is the biggest mismatch of the week. However, just when you start to count out an underdog, thats when they start to surprise you. Therefore, the large spread should increase betting on the Cleveland side this week. If Baltimore keeps playing the way they have been, they will definitely win the game, but will they cover the huge spread?

New York Giants vs. Tampa Bay (New York -6.5). Eli Manning is definitely learning how to spread the ball around without Plaxico Burress by his side. On the other side of the ball Byron Leftwich is proving that he is still a capable player in his own right. The Bucs also have a good two-headed running attack with Derrick Ward and Cadillac Williams. Can the Bucs stop the vaunted ground game of the Giants though?

Washington vs. Detroit (Washington -6). Last week, the Redskins scared a lot of people by playing an extremely close game with the St. Louis Rams. They failed to cover then and many wonder whether they can do it this weekend. Their offense is anemic and they really don't have a quarterback. If Detroit plays like they did in the first half against the Vikings, they can surprise the Redskins.

Green Bay vs. St. Louis (Green Bay -6.5). As mentioned with the Redskins preview, the Rams battled hard with them last week. If Jackson can get it going on the ground again, this could be a closer game than people think. After a promising start against the Bears, the Packers defense took a step back against the Bengals. Can they go back in the right direction against the lowly Rams offense?

San Francisco vs. Minnesota (Minnesota -6.5). Although the Vikings sputtered in the first half against the Lions, they came on strong in the second half and put them away. If the Vikings can put it all together for a full game, they will handily whip the Niners. However, the Niners have quietly jumped out to a 2-0 record of their own. This should be a pretty good game.

Atlanta vs. New England (New England -4.5). The Patriots sputtered against the Jets last week and looked like a pretty mediocre team. They only put up 9 points which is pretty much unthinkable for the Patriots of old. On the other side, the Falcons have beat down the Dolphins and Panthers in their first two weeks. Tony G. is still doing damage to opposing defenses and they look like a legitimate offense. Expect a pretty close game in this one.

Pittsburgh vs. Cincinnati (Pittsburgh -4). The Bengals looked like a much improved team last week as they beat the Green Bay Packers. Carson Palmer looked better and Chad Ochocinco put up another good game. If they can keep improving, they will be a team to be reckoned with and might surprise the Steelers. The Steelers are coming off of a tough loss at the hands of Chicago and are looking to bounce back.

Denver vs. Oakland (Denver -1.5). This is one of the closest spreads of the week and for good reason. The Raiders are much improved over last season and the Broncos aren't really as good as their 2-0 record indicates. Will the McD era in Denver keep rolling along with another win? Or will the Raiders win back-to-back games for the first time this season?

Indianapolis vs. Arizona (Arizona -2.5). Arizona shut up a lot of the naysayers last week when they trounced the Jaguars. Many people believed that they were a fluke last year and Kurt Warner put an end to all of that talk with an amazing performance. This one should be interesting as it pits two of the best quarterbacks that have been in the league for a long time against each other. Look for a shootout in this one.

Carolina vs. Dallas (Dallas -9). Carolina has started out terribly in the first two games. They got blown out against Philly and then lost to the Falcons last week. While both of those teams are good, it's not a good sign that Carolina didn't even look competitive. Can Delhomme turn it around and stop turning the ball over? Dallas on the other hand is coming off of one of the most disappointing losses in quite some time at the hands of the Giants. If Romo can stop throwing interceptions, this could be a special team.

Chicago vs. Seattle (Chicago -1.5). The Bears look to continue on their promising win last week against the Steelers. Can they keep it going or will they be shut down by Seattle? The Seahawks might have to go with Seneca Wallace at quarterback. This isn't exactly an encouraging sign if you're a Seahawks fan. The Bears hope to get Matt Forte rolling on the ground again after two sub-par games.

New Orleans vs. Buffalo (New Orleans -6). Drew Brees has been completely out of this world the first two weeks of the season. He has tied an NFL record with 9 touchdown passes over the first two weeks of a season. They also get Pierre Thomas back at full strength this week which should help the ground game. T.O. found the endzone last week and the Bills looked a lot better. Can they keep the passing attack going against New Orleans?

Miami vs. San Diego (San Diego -5.5). This should be a pretty evenly matched game. The Dolphins controlled the clock against the Colts and still somehow managed to lose. They can run the ball and their defense is not bad. On the other side, the Chargers look to rebound after a loss to the Ravens. Will Phillip Rivers be able to bounce back?

Dallas Cowboys New Stadium Opening in 2009

The Dallas Cowboys have a new home. A new stadium is under construction and should be ready to open for the 2009 season. It is an enormous and state of the art stadium which will seat approximately 80,000 but is expandable to 100,000 for major events. Some historical features of the Texas Stadium, which was the home of the Cowboys for 35 years, have been incorporated into the new design with the presence of a retractable roof.

Distinct arches span the length of the stadium and a hole in its roof will give the stadium an outdoor feel. The new stadium will also allow a 365-day entry with a Pro shop, Hall of Fame and ticket office. Video screens will also be provided on each side of the stadium for the viewing pleasure of the fans.

The hole in the roof which the Texas Stadium is known for is recreated in this new stadium in a subtle way by using a retractable dome. Nevertheless, it will still have the same environment as the Texas Stadium with the fame hole in the roof which is easily recognized by people around the world. The mechanism that makes the retractable roof open is the first of its kind in North America. The two bi-parting mechanized roof panels move by the rack and pinion system.

A sense of enormity can be viewed from the North since it clearly shows two structural steel arches which spans the entire 1,290 foot length of the stadium. The Dallas Cowboys New Stadium is the largest NFL venue built and it boast of the most impressive column-free room in the world, which reaches a quarter mile in length. To give you an idea of its size, the new stadium measures twice as long as the St. Louis Gateway Arch. More so, the Statue of Liberty can stand inside the domed structure completely.

Also seen from the North, two large media walls is seen on both sides. Each located above the North and South quadrant entries. It is also designed to be used as projection surfaces, fixed imagery, and video displays. A great thing about these media walls is that they can be seen from the roadways and parking lots. For fans tailgating in the immediate parking areas, these screens offer quality images for pre-game and post-game entertainment.

There is also an innovative element that we should watch out for in the new stadium and that is the center-hung video board. It hangs 110-feet above the field from the arches and it will stretch between the 20 yard lines. This just means that the sideline boards will span 60 yards and fans who are occupying the upper decks will have a larger than life game directly in front of them if they get tired of looking down at the field.

Certainly, there is a lot to look forward to in the Dallas Cowboys New Stadium. Pretty sure everyone can't wait to get the first feel of the Cowboys' new home.

Mini football helmets make the ideal curio pieces in a home or office space which belongs to a sports lover. There are so many fans out there who enjoy collecting and displaying sports related memorabilia and collectibles, even the mini football helmets. For a person who is an ardent fan of the NFL, national Football leagues, he would give anything to own a helmet or a jersey worn by the player or that has their autograph on it. But for those, who cant afford those, but want a piece of the sport with them, these mini football helmets are a way of satisfying this urge. Since these helmets are small in size and don't occupy much space, they can be displayed anywhere. There are some fans who have these in their car, proudly showing off that they support that particular team. Also, the helmets are a genuine replica of the original ones that the players wear and so these are as valuable as the bigger helmets.

Off late there have been as spurt in the number of websites that have come up where sports memorabilia and items are available for sale. The sports enthusiasts can check them out, and make a purchase online and it will be delivered to their doorstep within couple of days. The helmets look exactly like the bigger ones, right down to the color and patterns. These helmets are made with the same material, polycarbonate shells that are used in making the players' helmets. And so they are as strong and sturdy and wont get damaged easily. The detailing on these is amazing because attention is paid from the coloring to the chin strap. Every helmet has a chin strap made of fine leather with an adjustable buckle at the end. There is no difference between these and their larger counterparts but for the size.

Some of the helmets available have an autograph by the player or might have a player's photo on them. So, if there are fans who like a particular player, they can pick up those helmets. These are a unique way of displaying one's loyalties towards the sports. In fact there are some companies which have begun making display cases for these mini football helmets. These are perfect as they prevent the helmet from getting dusty and helps keep the shine on longer. There are also display cases available for footballs, which is another common collectible item among sports fans. When a person visits the office or home of a sports fan, and he sees this mini football helmet sitting proudly in the mantle, he will develop new respect for the home owner. For a person to be in possession of a sports related product is something to be excited about and they will remember the game that helped their team win the championship.

NFL Jersey Selection Process

Football is one of the most popular sports in America. The fan base is enormous, and it stretches through all age groups. Sports fans love to show pride in their favorite teams, and with football it is easy to let the world know what team you follow: you buy an NFL Jersey.

It is easy to see what people love about an NFL jersey; you wear the name of your favorite player, you sport a piece of clothing worn by the professional athletes on the field, it is an easy way to get into the spirit of the game. This makes them one of the most popular items sold in sports stores nationwide. While it might seem like an easy purchase there are still some things to consider.

First of all you have to pick a favorite player. Often when a team signs a big name player the jerseys that bear the name of that player are apt to sell out very quickly as excitement builds for his first game. Sometimes, instead of going for the new guy people will pick out an NFL Jersey with the name of someone who has been performing positively for a couple of years; for example if your team has a great quarterback you are bound to see his name on a high percentage of jerseys in the stadium on game day.

While it might seem that most sports fans are men you might have noticed how many women are popping up at football games. As a result more and more sports merchandise is being tailored towards the ladies, with great fanfare. If you are a woman and are looking to buy an NFL jersey, or if you are buying one for the lady in your life, you will be happy to know that jerseys are now being sized to fit the body of a female. In the past women have been seen swimming in jerseys that are made for men, now they can still look cute while sporting their favorite player on the back of their very own NFL Jersey.

So now that we have the grown people fitted we should not forget about the children right? Kids will often grow up liking the same sports team as their parents, and you can nurture their enjoyment with an NFL Jersey of their very own. Whether they are playing in the backyard or watching television with you in the family room they will love wearing the name of their favorite player on their back!

How to Plan a Super Bowl Party

No sporting event is scene by more people around the world then the Superbowl. The game of football has been around since the 1800s but the Superbowl has only been in existence since January 15th 1967. It is the culmination of a long season of teams playing against each other to be crowned, champions of the NFL. Even people who do not watch football all season long tend to get into the festivities of Superbowl Sunday. So having a party with friends has become quite the event. The group is usually divided between those fans cheering for the AFC team and those cheering for the NFC team. If you are planning to host a party I suggest you start your plans early so you can host a fun afternoon for you and your friends.

First, you should make a guest list. It is fun to have fans for both teams it makes for a more competitive day. A Superbowl party doesn't have to be men only. There are many women who enjoy football and who says the party has to be just football. I suggest you don't invite more people than you can accommodate to watch the game comfortably. The main reason for the party is the game.

Secondly, you want to decorate, there are a wide range of Superbowl decorations available today at most party stores and usually they are quite reasonable. You can also use sports paraphernalia that you may have around the house, be creative. It is fun to use the colors and logos of the two teams playing in the Superbowl. Also this is the perfect time to choose paper and plastic utensils in the team colors.

Most important, the food and drink, as much as the Superbowl is about football it is also about eating. You want to have adequate quantity and a good mix. All kinds of dip and chips are called for. Guacamole, salsa and chips are always popular. Hot Wings are one of the latest sensations. To cut down on labor for the hostess I suggest deli platters or giant Sub sandwiches. Remember your guests will be drinking so plenty of food is a must. As for drinks beer is most popular, but wine and wine coolers are always a crowd favorite. It is also imperative that you have a good mix of non alcoholic drinks. A few sweets is good for those guests with a sweet tooth. Most important, have plenty of ice. Because the Superbowl is in February people tend to forget the ice.

Lastly, have plenty of TVs placed around so people can watch the game wherever they are sitting. Move TVs from other rooms if you can. If you were planning on purchasing a large screen TV this is the perfect excuse. Many retailers deliver the day of the Superbowl. Remember you are all there to watch the game.

Logo Printers T-Shirt and Embroidery Custom Clothing

Custom clothing is an excellent idea for branding your image. Embroidery and screen print are the most popular choices for displaying your logo on polo shirts, hats and t-shirts. Embroidered and screen printed shirts are used by schools, corporate entities, churches, sports teams and many other organizations. They have found that custom clothing can be used to make a name for themselves, promote their image, and make a statement about their team or organization.

Polo shirts with high quality embroidery can make people associate you and your organization with the quality and dignity that the embroidered polo portrays. Smooth pique polo shirts, name brand designs and intricately executed embroidery logos will help you to make the impression that you intend to.

Choosing from name brand custom clothing will help you to be confident in the garments that you choose. You may already have a designer in mind, depending on what organization you are promoting or which demographic you are targeting.

For example, a country club golf course would be well served to choose a high end golf brand polo shirt for their campaign. Ping, Callaway Golf, Tattoo Golf and Nike Golf would all be excellent brand choices. Not only would the quality of the shirt be top notch, but the club members would be interested in wearing these brands of shirts to play golf in. They would make great gifts, employee uniforms or inventory for your pro shop. These brands not only represent the quality of a high end golf organization, but target the demographic audience that the country club caters to as well. Associating your club name with all of these things can help you to establish yourself as a high quality outfit.

For custom clothing that needs to be less expensive or more festive, consider screen printed t-shirts. These are extremely popular with schools, churches, charities and clubs. They are inexpensive enough to have specialty screen prints done for just about any occasion. Schools create individual class shirts, field trip shirts, field day shirts and graduating class shirts. If the quality is good, then the shirt can become a favorite keepsake of the students and parents.

A high quality screen printers t-shirt can last for many years without peeling or fading. They are popular with sports teams, clubs, churches and many other organizations. They make great giveaways or fundraiser items as well. Choosing name brand t-shirts and the right printer will help ensure that the t shirts you select hold up through many years of wear.

Garage Storage to "A Man Cave" - Ideas For Turning Your Garage Into a Sports Fan's Haven

Garage storage used to simply mean a defined space to park your car, hang your tools, and stash whatever else you could find. But not anymore. Today, more and more men are taking to the garage to carve themselves out a place to act as one part abode, one part hobby center, and two parts glorious, glorious solitude. I'm talking about the aptly coined "man cave."

Garage Flooring Ideas

First things first: Before you can start moving in the La-Z-Boy recliner, high-definition flat screen and favorite team football helmet chip bowl, you'll need to make sure your new all-Sunday hangout is durable. After all, soda spills and burrito chunks can destroy a floor as well as years of oil stains and dust collection can. In the earliest stage of making your garage sports-viewing proof, you'll want to consider replenishing the floor with a high-quality garage floor coating. A coating like epoxy -- a mixture of epoxide and polyamine -- is often thought to be the strongest and most durable, because it resists everything from liquid to UV rays. Also, it comes in different colors like slate and desert, handing you the ability to customize the look and feel of your floor.

Integrate Your Favorite Sports Team

Now that you've secured your cave's long-lasting foundation, you'll want to step further into the world of personalization. Whether you're a fan of the NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA or any other league/sport, chances are you don't just watch arbitrarily. Everyone has a favorite team. Here are some cool ways to show everyone your allegiances:

  • Decorating the open walls is a given. And sure, you can put up pennants, framed jerseys, and old-school posters, but why not go bigger? Fathead's are life-sized cutouts of your favorite sports stars that stick easily to your wall, can be removed and reapplied elsewhere and, best yet, leave no lasting effect on the wall itself.

  • Most league Web sites host official shops and are particular attentive to individuals seeking team-themed goodies for their bar or garage. Super Bowl Ring - Who Gets It?

With the Super Bowl come the Super Bowl rings. However, what are they and how can you get one?

Super Bowls rings are given as awards to all the members of the winning team in the championship game of the league, which is the Super Bowl. They are awarded to them in commemoration of their victory. These valuable rings are usually made with white or yellow studded with diamonds. They would have the Super Bowl number, the team name and the team logo engraved on each ring.

The rings could also have bigger diamonds, as well as diamonds that have been designed to form a trophy. It represents how many Super Bowls the particular franchise has won. For instance, the 2005 Super Bowl ring of Pittsburgh has five trophies, which would represent the five championship games, or Super Bowls, that they have won.

A lot of people may not know that the NFL actually spends almost $5,000 for each ring, and usually gives almost 150 rings for each team. And the policy was if the cost of the rings goes over the limit of $5,000, then the team owner would be the one paying for the difference. A lot of the more recent rings have been appraised to have a value of over $20,000 but most manufacturers do not directly give this information.

The Super Bowl rings are usually made by the chosen company of the winning team. A lot of the Super Bowl rings are manufactured by a company named Josten's located in Denton. Texas.

Soccer Shoes - Football Boot Materials

The construction of modern day football boots is much more advanced compared with how they used to be manufactured. In the past soccer shoes were very basic and there was only a small amount of difference between the leading manufacturer's products. The only visible identifying factor was the logo or brand that each manufacturer included on the boot.

The main football boot materials were black leather and plastic. Nowadays sportswear giants have a huge budget to spend on design and development of new soccer shoe designs. Extensive research goes into how improvements can be made by using certain materials. The aim is often to make the boots more lightweight while still providing ample protection for the feet.

The materials that are used on modern boots are often man made and synthetic fibres are commonly used alongside leather. In some cases, synthetic fibres are used instead of leather as this is a much cheaper option for the manufacturer. Synthetic materials also allow ground breaking designs and the famous Adidas predator boot was one such example. Ridges were included on the boot which helped players to swerve the ball. The use of synthetic material in football boots may not be to everyone's liking but this is considered to be environmentally friendly compared to using leather.

Another major change in design has been the introduction of blades. These are an alternative to the studs which are located on the soles of football boots. Boots are now made with both changeable and moulded blades just like footwear with conventional studs. One criticism of blades is their performance in wet weather conditions and some managers do no approve of their use for this reason.

There has been some recent controversy regarding football injuries. In particular metatarsal injuries seem to be on the increase. Critics of modern football boot design claim that the materials used in the construction of today's boots do not offer the same level of protection as the boots of old. They claim the footwear is too lightweight with the emphasis on speed rather than strength. Most manufacturers dispute these criticisms and point out that player safety is of paramount importance to them.

Today soccer shoes have become a fashion accessory as well as an essential piece of equipment for all players. Football boots are designed in a variety of bright colours intended to catch the eye and stand out from the crowd. There are still some examples of boots made with black leather although these are in the minority compared to the more extravagant designs.

How to Become an NFL Player Part 1

Becoming an NFL player was my dream since I was in junior high school, and I was one of the lucky few who actually made it all the way to the NFL. I have played for the New York Giants, the New Orleans Saints, the Washington Redskins, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

My life in the NFL was a remarkable experience. However, getting to the NFL was very difficult. In this article I want to discuss a few of the mental hurdles a young athlete will go through if they want to make it all the way to the NFL.

My preparation for the NFL began in high school when I realized that I had a chance to play Division One football. I attended an outstanding high school program at Eisenhower High School in Lawton, OK where I played against a rival school (Lawton High School) that has produced NFL talent including Michael Minter of the Carolina Panthers, Will Shields of the Kansas City Chiefs, Daly Gardner of the Miami Dolphins, James Trapp of the Oakland Raiders, and Jamal Brown of the New Orleans Saints.

Playing against the top athletes in high school really helped to raise my game to be the best it could be. As an athlete, your preparation for the pros starts when you decide you want to be the best athlete you can be for you--not for your parents, not for your girlfriend, and not for your friends. To be an NFL player you must have a burning desire to play with the best and you must do everything you can physically and mentally to make yourself able to compete with the best.

But being a great athlete is only half of what it takes to make it to the pros. Developing your mental skills is just as important as developing your physical skills.

First, you cannot play football if you have bad grades. The real work for becoming an NFL player starts in the classroom. For me, the class room was difficult and I had to work very hard to keep my grades up. But I understood that if my grades were bad, I would be kicked off the high school team. And, if I was kicked off the high school team, I would not be able to play college football, and college football is a requirement for becoming a pro player. Because of that, I worked very hard to keep my grades up.

If you want to become an NFL player, you must take your class work seriously to give yourself an opportunity to play college football. Here is a secret most student athletes don't know. Colleges love smart athletes. By being both a great student and a great athlete, you greatly increase your chances of being recruited by a scout for a major college football team. Why you ask? Smart players make smart decisions on the football field and help win games. If you look at many of the greatest NFL players, many of them are not the best athletes. What they are, are the smartest athletes. When you play in the pros, the plays are very complex and you need to think very quickly. That is why it is so important to build your brain power just as much as your athletic skills. Accomplishing this is one of the first big steps towards becoming a pro player.

Another important part of being a pro player is how you present yourself as a person. Do you get along well with your fellow athletes and coaches? Are you a good member of your community? College and pro teams want cooperative team members, not spoiled athletes that cause problems, get into trouble, and are an embarrassment to the organization. An athlete that causes problems with his team members and gets into trouble with the law hurts a team. Problem players are quickly removed from competitive sports teams. Therefore, if you want to make it to the NFL, keep yourself out of trouble and be a model person.

In conclusion, being a great athlete is not enough to make it to the pros. You must work hard both on and off the field. Be a person that your team can count on and be proud of. If you do this, you will increase your chances of being recruited by a college scout and making it to the pros.
